YFAW 2024 — Young Functional Analysts' Workshop 2024
15. Apr 2024 - 17. Apr 2024 • Newcastle upon Tyne, Großbritannien
Veranstalter:
School of Mathematics, Statistics and Physics, Newcastle University, UK
Zusammenfassung:
We are delighted to announce that the Young Functional Analysts' Workshop is back! The next meeting will be held at Newcastle University from the 15th to the 17th of April 2024, and registration is now open. We encourage all participants to submit a short talk and/or poster, but there is no obligation to do so- simply attending is also very welcome! Also, we will cover accommodation costs for all participants.

Briefly, the objective of the Young Functional Analysts' Workshop (YFAW) is to provide an inclusive forum for PhD students and early career researchers in Functional Analysis and related fields, primarily in the UK but also from other countries, within which they can showcase their research, form collaboration networks, and interact with established mathematicians, all within a positive atmosphere. The organisation of the Workshop has been successfully rotating among various UK universities since 2008.Our invited speakers are Dr Sabine Boegli (Durham University), Dr Evgenios Kakariadis (Newcastle University), Dr Eleftherios Kastis (Lancaster University), Dr David Seifert (Newcastle University) and Dr Runlian Xia (University of Glasgow). They will deliver talks on the topics of operator algebras, operator semigroups, function spaces, spectral theory, and rigidity theory and we expect several research short talks and/or posters from PhD students and early career researchers.

If you are interested in presenting your research, rehearsing your viva presentation, strengthening your CV with a research talk, or just attending, then we would be pleased to have you at YFAW 2024!

SSBF 2024 — Summer School on Bayesian filtering: fundamental theory and numerical methods
06. Mai 2024 - 10. Mai 2024 • ICMS, Bayes Centre, Edinburgh, Großbritannien
Veranstalter:
ICMS - International Centre for Mathematical Sciences
Zusammenfassung:
The proposed summer school is devoted to the fundamental theory, state-of-the-art methodologies and real-world applications of Bayesian filtering, including sequential Monte Carlo (SMC) algorithms and other popular techniques, such as sigma-point methods for nonlinear Kalman filtering, Gaussian-mixture filters and others. We will introduce the basics of the field, so the summer school can be followed by an heterogenous audience. Basic notions on linear algebra, statistics, probability, and calculus are recommended. Then, the main targeted group for this summer school is PhD students with background in mathematics, statistics, physics, engineering, or computer science (but not only). Other students (e.g., last year MSc students) and early-career academics with similar background are also invited to apply. We intend to schedule 5 short courses (one-day tutorials) from renowned international researchers. These tutorials will cover the theoretical foundations of the field, current methodological trends, and relevant applications. Some courses may include hands-on sessions in (personal) computers. The target audience include researchers working on the field, as well as students aiming at being introduced to the topic.

Introductory Workshop EHTW01 — Equivariant homotopy theory in context
13. Jan 2025 - 17. Jan 2025 • Cambridge , Großbritannien
Veranstalter:
Isaac Newton Institute for Mathematical Sciences
Themen:
Equivariant techniques have played a critical role in the proofs of several major results and developments in algebraic topology over the past decade. Examples include the solution of the famous Kervaire invariant one problem, computations of previously inaccessible homotopy groups of spheres based on the motivic Adams spectral sequence, and the new equivariant approach to THH, TC, and algebraic K- theory. The programme will unite experts and young researchers who apply homotopic methods in algebra (operads), algebraic topology, and algebraic geometry (motivic homotopy theory) around the common theme of equivariant methods. Though these methods have already led to significant breakthroughs, their potential is clearly far from exhausted. We foresee that this programme will incite further developments and greater synergies between equivariant homotopy theory and the themes of the programme centred around three workshops: "Operads and calculus", "Chromatic and motivic homotopy theory" and "THH, TC and algebraic K- theory".
