MODEST-24 — Exploring Dense Stellar Systems Across Cosmic Time
19. Aug 2024 - 23. Aug 2024 • Warschau, Polen
Veranstalter:
Nicolaus Copernicus Astronomical Center, Polish Academy of Sciences
Zusammenfassung:
MOEDST-24 will be the 22nd annual international conference in the MODEST (Modeling and Observing DEnse STellar systems) meeting series. MODEST-24 will bring together researchers working on dense stellar systems and create a space for theorists and observers to connect. Our goal is to encourage a friendly exchange of knowledge, ideas and tools among groups working on similar topics and research questions. We look forward to hosting a collaborative and enriching experience for all participants. The scientific agenda of the conference will cover a broad range of topics including but not limited to: • Numerical approaches to modelling stellar systems and their constituents, • Observational properties of dense stellar systems in different environments, • Formation of dense stellar systems across cosmic time, • Stellar multiplicity, exotica, and transients in star clusters, • Compact objects and gravitational wave sources.

Advanced school on quantum spacetime
02. Sep 2024 - 06. Sep 2024 • Warschau, Polen
Veranstalter:
Faculty of Physics, University of Warsaw (Poland)
Zusammenfassung:
Advanced school on quantum spacetime will take place at the Faculty of Physics, University of Warsaw, from September 2 to September 6, 2024. The school will cover some of the most rapidly developing areas connecting quantum field theory with cosmology and gravitational physics: black holes, scattering amplitudes, gravitational waves, cosmological correlators, and celestial holography. The school will consist of five series of lectures, each series will consist of four lectures. The school is intended for graduate students, but advanced undergraduates and postdocs entering these research areas will also profit from pedagogical lectures and discussions.

Galactic and extragalactic X-ray transients, theory and observational perspectives
09. Sep 2024 - 11. Sep 2024 • Warschau, Polen
Veranstalter:
Centre for Theoretical Physics, Polish Academy of Sciences, Warsaw, Poland
Zusammenfassung:
Theoretical studies have shown that the multi-wavelength emission of the nuclei of active galaxies, stellar mass black hole and neutron star binaries is fueled by their accretion disks. The accretion process may be not stationary, and the accretion history as well as geometric structure of the infalling matter are not well understood. Importantly, the magnetic fields must play a key role in sustaining the accretion flows. While we have progressed in understanding many of these phenomena, there are recent observations and new models that drive our understanding in new directions. They are related either to the instabilities in the innermost part of the disk or to the sudden interaction of circumnuclear stars with the central black hole and the disk. Processes close to the black hole also allow testing of General Relativity in a strong field regime.
