8th NGS Data Analysis Berlin Summer School 2024
10 jui 2024 - 14 jui 2024 • Berlin, Allemagne
Organisateur:
ecSeq Bioinformatics GmbH
Résumé:
The purpose of this intense one-week summer course is to get a deep understanding in Next-Generation Sequencing (NGS) with a special focus on bioinformatics issues. Advantages and disadvantages of current sequencing technologies and their implications on data analysis will be discovered. You will be trained on understanding NGS data formats and handling potential problems/errors therein. In the summer school we will use a real-life RNA-seq dataset from the current market leader illumina. All students will be enabled to perform important first tasks of NGS data analysis themselves. The layout of the summer school has been adapted to the needs of beginners in the field of NGS bioinformatics and allows scientists with no or little background in computer science to get a first hands-on experience in this new and fast evolving research topic. In the evenings there will be social events, like a conference dinner, or a guided city tour through Berlin. These are always great networking possibilities.

GEE24-01 — EMBL Course: Genome engineering: CRISPR/Cas in cells and mice
01 sep 2024 - 06 sep 2024 • Heidelberg, Allemagne
Organisateur:
EMBL Heidelberg
Résumé:
This course will provide training in genome editing and cell engineering in mammalian cells and mouse embryos using the highly efficient CRISPR/Cas9 system. Participants will learn design of CRISPR targets using bioinformatics tools, generation of gene knock-outs/knock-ins, and target validation using the most current technologies. The course will be split into two groups (mammalian cells OR mice) based on participants’ expertise. Please note that all participants are expected to engage in all sessions. Participants should plan for approximately 1 hour extra per day for self paced learning modules.

Next-Generation Sequencing Data Analysis: A Practical Introduction
02 sep 2024 - 04 sep 2024 • Munich, Allemagne
Organisateur:
ecSeq Bioinformatics GmbH
Résumé:
The purpose of this workshop is to get a deeper understanding in Next-Generation Sequencing (NGS) with a special focus on bioinformatics issues. Advantages and disadvantages of current sequencing technologies and their implications on data analysis will be discovered. The participants will be trained on understanding their own NGS data, finding potential problems/errors therein and finally perform their first downstream analysis (variant calling). In the course we will use a real-life NGS dataset from the current market leader illumina. All workshop attendees will be enabled to perform important first tasks of NGS data analysis themselves. The course layout has been adapted to the needs of beginners in the field of NGS bioinformatics and allows scientists with no or little background in computer science to get a first hands-on experience in this new and fast evolving research topic.

EES24-11 — EMBO | EMBL Symposium The complex life of RNA
15 oct 2024 - 18 oct 2024 • Heidelberg, Allemagne
Organisateur:
EMBL Heidelberg
Résumé:
Before the genetic information stored in DNA can be used to direct cell growth and metabolism, it has to be transferred into RNA. Messenger RNAs (mRNAs) that code for proteins and noncoding RNAs are key components in the transmission of genetic information in all life forms – from viruses to complex mammalian organisms. Following the great success of the 2022 edition of this long-standing symposium, we are looking forward to returning in 2024, bringing together leaders in the RNA field, post-docs and students, with the aim of disseminating and discussing the most recent results. The programme will include topics on transcription, RNA processing and modification, mRNA export and localisation, mRNA surveillance and decay, translation, the activity of non-coding RNAs, the control of mRNA expression, and coupling among these processes.

Dagstuhl-Seminar — Coding Theory and Algorithms for Emerging Technologies in Synthetic Biology
15 dec 2024 - 20 dec 2024 • Schloss Dagstuhl, Wadern, Allemagne
Organisateur:
Schloss Dagstuhl - Leibniz-Zentrum für Informatik
Résumé:
The progress in understanding genes and genomes has given a boost to the use of synthetic DNA for biological and technological applications. Synthetic nucleic acids play a central role in synthetic biology and in emerging therapeutic paradigms, e.g., genome editing and nucleic acid vaccines. DNA-based data storage is making significant progress, and thanks to its extreme data-density, its high durability and its timelessness, it is promising to be the next standard for data archival systems. Synthetic biology and the use of synthetic DNA for information storage applications bring important algorithmic and data analysis challenges. In synthetic biology, reagent and assay design are often driven by algorithmic approaches. Novel synthesis technologies offer cost-reduction by several orders of magnitude at the cost of increased error-rate, raising new coding-theoretic questions. This Dagstuhl Seminar aims to bring together leading biologists, chemists, engineers, computer/data scientists, and theoreticians working on synthetic biology and on DNA-based data storage, to enable joint work in small groups leading to discussing and exploring recent advancements and current challenges.
