A Bit of a Stretch - Liquid Crystal Elastomers
16. Mär 2021 • Malvern or online, Großbritannien
Organised by IOP West Midlands Branch, Hereford & Worcester Centre
This talk will introduce what these special rubbers - liquid crystal elastomers - are and how they spontaneously change shape, can lift thousands of times their own weight, and how they can even get thicker when stretched, rather than thinner. This event may also be delivered as an online webinar. If necessary due to Coronavirus or venue restrictions it will be an online webinar only.
Advanced School in Soft Condensed Matter 'Solutions in the Spring'
29. Mär 2021 - 01. Apr 2021 • Sheffield Hallam University, Großbritannien
Organised by the IOP Liquids and Complex Fluids Group
The aim of this School is to provide a comprehensive foundation for researchers in the field of soft matter, liquids and complex fluids. The lectures will introduce key topics of current interest together with the theoretical, experimental and computer simulation approaches used to address them. The School is directed towards postgraduate students from a wide range of backgrounds including physics, chemistry, chemical engineering and biophysics.
14. Apr 2021 - 16. Apr 2021 • Institute of Physics, London, Großbritannien
Institute of Physics (IOP)
The IOP’s Dielectrics and Electrostatics Group is hosting its biennial Dielectrics conference from 14th-16th April 2021 at the Institute of Physics, London, UK, to explore the ever-expanding area of dielectrics. The Dielectrics 2021 conference will run under the theme “From Fundamentals to Applications” to encourage a wide range of topics to be covered and scientists to participate. The conference is organised in four core topics, including Theory and Modelling of Dielectric Materials, Advanced Characterisation of Dielectric Materials, Dielectrics for Biological Applications, and Dielectrics for Electronic Devices. Contributions from both academia and industry are welcome covering areas in physicis, chemistry, materials science, engineering and technology.

This one day meeting is a popular annual event providing a forum for those involved in using plasmas and ion beams for surface modification, surface analysis and thin film deposition. Topics covered include modelling of fundamental atomic collisions in solids through to new techniques for high throughput industrial processes
Designed assembly of colloids at interfaces - fundamentals to applications
14. Jun 2021 - 16. Jun 2021 • University of Hull, Hull, Großbritannien
IOP Liquids and Complex Fluids Group
Colloidal particles at liquid interfaces represents a rapidly expanding area of soft matter science. The dramatic growth in interest in these systems has until now been primarily driven by the discovery of multi-phase systems such as emulsions and foams stabilised solely by particle adsorption. However, more recently, there has been a growing realisation that the unique behaviour of colloids at interfaces also provides new exciting opportunities to design the assembly of colloids into dimensionally confined structures in order to create functional nanomaterials, reconfigurable devices and biomimetic systems. The aim of this conference is to bring together the diverse research communities interested in this area, from fundamental soft matter science to applied research in areas such as novel formulations, lab on a chip reactors, nanomaterials for energy, biomaterials, encapsulation and controlled release etc., in order to cross-pollinate ideas and stimulate new research directions in these fascinating systems.
