Ways to engage with this theme include sessions on the history, accuracy, and improvements of conceptual models; forecast decision aides; forecaster-over-the-loop and ways to blend human and machine predictions; benefits of manual data analysis to the forecast or evaluation process; verification and ways to leverage verification information to improve forecaster expertise and performance, data assimilation, model skill, and economic benefit; methods to minimize bias in decisions; hiring and retention practices for all career levels; and team building approaches. This meeting will include a variety of talks on mental health issues and professional and personal development to assist us as we tackle upcoming challenges and adapt to our ever-changing world.

The 11th EARSeL Workshop on Land Ice and Snow will be held in Kumpula, in Helsinki, Finland, in the premises of the Finnish Meteorological Institute (FMI) on 9 -11 February, 2026. The venue is located near Kumpula campus of the Helsinki University.

The International Symposium on Equatorial Aeronomy (ISEA) is held once in every three to four years. Researchers from the fields of atmosphere, ionosphere and magnetosphere science come together in ISEA to share new results, discuss the current state-of-the-art, and identify promising topics for future research. The 17th International Symposium on Equatorial Aeronomy will be held in Liberia, Costa Rica from February 9 to 13, 2026.

Wetter ist ein alltagsnahes, medial präsentes und gesellschaftlich hochrelevantes Thema – insbesondere im Kontext zunehmender Extremwetterereignisse und der öffentlichen Debatte rund um Klimawandel und Anpassungsstrategien. Gleichzeitig zeigen Studien, dass viele Begriffe in Wetterberichten von Lernenden (und auch Erwachsenen) missverstanden oder fehlinterpretiert werden. Ein fundiertes Verständnis meteorologischer Phänomene sowie ein reflektierter Umgang mit Sprache und Darstellung in Wetterprognosen sind daher essenzielle Voraussetzungen, um kompetent mit Wetterinformationen umgehen zu können. Die Schule spielt dabei eine zentrale Rolle: Sie soll Schüler:innen nicht nur Fachwissen vermitteln, sondern auch zu kritischer Mediennutzung und zur gesellschaftlichen Urteilsbildung befähigen.

Die 3, 5-tägige Fortbildung richtet sich an Lehrpersonen der Primarstufe sowie der Sekundarstufen I und II und verbindet meteorologische Fachinhalte mit fachdidaktischer Aufbereitung für verschiedene Schulstufen. Ziel ist es, ein vertieftes Verständnis zentraler Wetterphänomene sowie ihrer Darstellung in Wetterberichten und -warnungen zu vermitteln und diese Inhalte altersadäquat in den Unterricht zu integrieren.
