Q-CASA — 2024 IPDPS Workshop on Quantum Computing Algorithms, Systems, and Applications
27 May 2024 - 31 May 2024 • San Francisco, United States
Organizer:
Iowa State University, Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering
Abstract:
Recent breakthroughs in quantum computing hardware have created an explosion of research and activity in quantum information science. The rise of “Noisy Intermediate Scale Quantum” (NISQ) devices has revealed major algorithmic and architectural challenges within this new technology. For example, the potential roles of quantum and/or quantum-classical hybrid data structures on algorithm design and performance evaluation are subjects of intense research. The goal of the QCASA workshop is to showcase the novel studies and foremost applications of non-fault-tolerant quantum computers, and provide a timely forum for computational scientists, software developers, computer scientists, physicists and quantum hardware specialists to exchange and discuss ideas on current problems in quantum information science. The contributions in this workshop will help elucidate practical, near-term limitations of current quantum devices, gauge the effectiveness of a class of approximate circuits quantitatively, and garner insight on what degree of that approximation is optimal for a given regime of machine performance.

Workshop on Entanglement in Many-Body Systems: From Nuclei to Quantum Computers and Back
09 Sep 2024 - 20 Sep 2024 • Seattle, United States
Abstract:
This workshop will be centered around the topic of entanglement in many-body systems relevant for and connected to NP. The goal is to advance exchanges of ideas and techniques between NP and other fields of many-body physics such as condensed matter, quantum chemistry or quantum field theories. These areas are already well advanced in the characterization and use of entanglement for the description of many-body systems, and in the development of experimental techniques for producing and detecting entangled states. The knowledge acquired in these fields can guide progress in the development of entanglement-driven methods for classical and quantum simulations of nuclei, and in the identification of experiments probing entanglement in nuclear systems. Vice versa, specificities of many-body NP techniques can potentially be useful for other fields, and QIS in general. The workshop will explore these different aspects.
