ID
849951
Termin
24. Apr 2017 - 29. Apr 2017
Ort
DAKHLA, Marokko
Zusammenfassung
During the last decade a large amount of new results has been published on the geology of the WAC, particularly of its northwestern parts, including the petrology and structure of the Archean and Paleoproterozoic Reguibat Arch, the geophysical properties of the WAC, its vertical movements and economic potential, the peripheral Pan-African Belt, the formation of the Cambrian paleomarginand its Variscan inversion, the evolution and economic plays of the Atlantic margin west of the WAC as well as those of the inverted Tethyan margin in the north. It is certainly appropriate now to bring together researchers to confront their results and reach new synthetic views on these topics.

We are delighted to organize the first WAC and Margins International Workshop (WACMA1) in Dakhla on the occasion of the Jubilee of Prof. ANDRE MICHARD as a Moroccan Geologist for over half a century.

Termin
22. Mai 2017 - 26. Mai 2017
Ort

Zusammenfassung
There are major computational challenges and substantial uncertainties associated with model inversion and performance optimization in oil field applications. As production and (in some cases) 4D seismic and electromagnetic data are collected, there are inevitably discrepancies between the predicted and actual reservoir responses. This drives the need for data assimilation, usually referred to as history matching in petroleum engineering. History matching involves the solution of a computationally demanding, highly ill-conditioned, inverse problem. Key complications that arise are the uncertain nature of the geology (and thus the need to "properly" sample the posterior distribution), combined with the need to retain geological realism in history-matched reservoir descriptions. Additional complexity enters as a result of the unknown rock-physics quantities needed to integrate multiphysics data sets. Applications received by Monday, March 27, 2017, will receive fullest consideration.

The energy mix is changing but the world will need every form of energy - both fossil and renewable - to meet its growing demands. Our ability to respond effectively to all the changes in our industry especially during this low oil and gas price cycle, determines whether we stay in a time of crises or move to that of opportunity. In order to survive and ultimately thrive again, we need to change and adapt our approaches and historical norms. On behalf of the LAC, it is my pleasure to invite you to the 2017 EAGE in Paris. It’s time to open a new Chapter.

This conference will bring together applied mathematicians at various stages of their careers as well as leading engineers and geophysicists. The goal is to exchange experiences and ideas necessary for the development of novel strategies to tackle challenging turbulent flows arising in engineering and geophysical fluid dynamics. These strategies will include effective analytic and data-driven dimension reduction that is essential for the mathematical modeling and numerical simulation of these turbulent flows. A partial list of topics that we intend to cover at the conference includes: modeling of turbulent flows in climate and engineering applications, state-of-the-art reduced order modeling techniques and stochastic parameterization techniques, the associated numerical implementations, and usage in different contexts such as flow control, instabilities, bifurcation analysis and transition to turbulence, predictability and prediction, and uncertainty quantification.

Termin
02. Okt 2017 - 06. Okt 2017
Ort
Izmir, Türkei
Zusammenfassung
The Aegean region and its environment are located in a complex geological belt in the eastern Mediterranean region that was shaped by almost the whole range of geological events, such as oceanic to continental subduction and collision followed by syn- to post-orogenic extension during the closure period of the Paleozoic to Mesozoic Tethys oceans. Therefore, the region preserves many records of several pulses of magmatic, sedimentary and metamorphic events together with economic mineral deposits and energy resources. With this complex framework, the region has become a geological laboratory to study, discuss and understand almost all of the geological processes and problems rising in an orogenic system.    In order to share and discuss the new findings and ideas, we are now organizing the seventh of the traditional "International Earth Science Colloquium on the Aegean Region", IESCA-2017 which will be held at Dokuz Eylul University, Izmir, Turkey (coastal city in the eastern Aegean Sea), 2-6 October 2017.

Balkan Geophysical Society (BGS) was founded by the geophysical society of Balkan Peninsula countries; Albania, Bulgaria, Greece, Romania, Turkey and Yugoslavia in 1993 and Hungary and Serbia also joined as member countries in 2002. The objectives of the BGS are to foster the collaboration of the member countries through joint geophysical research projects, publications, congresses etc. The first two BGS congresses and exhibitions were held in Athens and Istanbul in 1996 and 1999, respectively. Later BGS congresses were organized biannually.

Habitable Worlds 2017: A System Science Workshop
ID

Beginn
13. Nov 2017
Ort
Laramie, Wy, Vereinigte Staaten
Zusammenfassung
The Nexus for Exoplanet System Science (NExSS), a NASA research coordination network dedicated to the study of planetary habitability, is pleased to announce a five-day conference on "Habitable Worlds 2017: A System Science Workshop" from Nov 13-17, 2017 in Laramie, WY. The field of exoplanets is currently at the cusp of a watershed moment in finding life on other worlds, propelled by the discoveries of habitable zone terrestrial planets in both ground and space-based surveys, and the potential for future telescopes to characterize the atmospheres of some of these rocky planets. Preparing for such a singular moment needs a diverse community, including Earth scientists, heliophysicists, planetary scientists, and astrophysicists.

Planetary Boundary Layers in Atmospheres, Oceans, and Ice on Earth and Moons
ID
857048
Termin
02. Apr 2018 - 22. Jun 2018
Ort
Kavli Institute for Theoretical Physics, Santa Bar, Vereinigte Staaten
Zusammenfassung
The exchange of energy, mass, and other important quantities across interfaces is a fundamental physical problem spanning all of the natural sciences. Boundary and interfacial layers often exert controlling influence on these exchanges. Interfacial and boundary layers are often characterized by a change of phase, and through spray, bubbles, melting/freezing, and other vigorous mixing or forcing, the coexistence of multiple phases can become important. This program will focus on key questions that illustrate the generality of the interaction phenomenon and facilitate the synthesis of ideas and techniques from different disciplines.
