International Society for Neutron Radiography (ISNR)

The 12th World Conference on Neutron Radiography (WCNR-12) is an international forum that brings together researchers, engineers, industry practitioners and university students to promote, discuss and disseminate a wide range of topics in neutron imaging. This weeklong conference focuses on the latest methods, instrumentation and facilities, improvements in data processing and interpretation, and new applications of neutron imaging.

This will be a training course on how to get the most out of the Horace, SpinW and Euphonic software packages. Horace is a widely used suite of Matlab programs for the visualisation and analysis of large datasets from time-of-flight neutron inelastic scattering spectrometers. SpinW is a Matlab library that can plot and numerically simulate magnetic structures and excitations of a given spin Hamiltonian using classical Monte Carlo simulation and linear spin wave theory. Euphonic is a Python package to calculate phonon bandstructures and inelastic neutron scattering intensities from force constant matrices.

The ORNL Neutron Sciences Directorate is organizing a workshop, Neutrons in Structural Biology – Challenges & Opportunities, to be held June 10-12, 2024 at the Sheraton Pentagon City Hotel, Arlington, VA. The goal of the workshop is to garner support for the construction of the macromolecular neutron diffraction beamline EWALD at ORNL’s Second Target Station. EWALD will be capable of performing biological neutron crystallography on radically smaller crystals to help meet neutron beamtime demand for challenging biological systems.

The physical bases of neutron sources and of neutron scattering techniques for the study of condensed matter will be presented and discussed, with examples and applications in various scientific fields. Specific attention will be paid to recent developments and to those in progress and expected for the current decade. Professor John White was a key figure in the international scientific community for more than five decades. Over the course of a long and distinguished career, through a combination of advances in experimentation and choice of paradigm examples, his work demonstrated how neutron scattering data could be analysed to provide precise details of molecular structure and dynamics for a wide variety of chemical systems. John sadly passed away in August 2023. To celebrate and commemorate his lasting contributions, a symposium is being organised in his honour. We welcome contributions from John’s colleagues, collaborators and enthusiasts in what will be a celebration of a life well lived.

Open Reflectometry Standards Organisation (ORSO)

The 6th Open Reflectometry Standards Organisation ORSO annual meeting will take place on the 19th July at ILL/ESRF campus as a satellite to the SXNS17 Conference. Physical attendance will require registration at SXNS, but we will additionally run some hybrid sessions for remote participants.

An international, open effort to improve the scientific techniques of neutron and X-ray reflectometry

Center for High Resolution Neutron Scattering (CHRNS)

This year's summer school is devoted to methods and applications of small angle neutron scattering (SANS) and neutron reflectometry (NR) techniques. The school is targeted at those with little or no previous experience with neutron scattering methods. The combination of introductory lectures and training in scattering techniques will provide participants with a unique opportunity to become familiar with neutron scattering methods and their application to current research topics.

The 12th edition of the Neutron Wavelength-Dependent Imaging Workshop (NEUWAVE-12) is set to take place from September 1st to September 4th, 2024, in Lund, Sweden. The NEUWAVE workshops gather prominent researchers worldwide in the field of energy-resolved neutron imaging, a cutting-edge methodology leveraging the energy/wavelength dependency of neutron transmission for enhanced quantitativity. NEUWAVE strives to promote collaboration and advance energy-resolved neutron imaging by facilitating the exchange of information and experiences in an intimate workshop setting. Key topics of the NEUWAVE workshop encompass the current status of neutron imaging instruments, the evolution of imaging methods (such as Bragg-edge imaging, resonance absorption imaging, and imaging utilizing neutron interference effects or polarized neutrons), the advancement of detectors and instrumentation, and applications of energy-resolved techniques.

The MATRAC 2 School will provide a systematic overview of the application of neutrons and synchrotron radiation to the structural analysis of engineering materials and will focus on neutron scattering and imaging experiments. Students and young scientists from research and industry from all over Europe interested in this field are welcome to participate.

The Oxford School on Neutron Scattering is intended for scientists and engineers who are new to the field of neutron scattering. Lectures and tutorials covering the theory and practice of neutron diffraction and spectroscopy are given by international experts. Students will gain a comprehensive grounding in modern techniques and applications at both continuous and pulsed neutron sources and have the opportunity to hear about the latest research being carried out with the technique.

The German Conference on Neutron Scattering 2024 will take place in Aachen on 16th - 18th September 2024 (lunch-to-lunch) and offers a forum for the presentation and fruitful discussion of recent results and advances in the field of neutron scattering and material research using neutrons. The DN2024 is organized on behalf of the German Committee for Research with Neutrons (KFN) by the Jülich Centre for Neutron Science (JCNS), Forschungszentrum Jülich GmbH. Covering the breadth of neutron science from magnetism, via soft matter to proteins, microsymposia will further focus on the current topics “energy materials“ and “materials characterization”, as well as “high brilliance compact accelerator neutron sources”. Recent instrumental developments are additionally covered.

Neutron science of today and tomorrow – neutron sources and their impact on material research

The JCNS Workshop 2024 will be held in Tutzing, Germany on October 8th to 11th, 2024 and it will bring together experts in neutron scattering and other scattering techniques to discuss present status, ongoing developments as well as future perspectives in the field of functional interfaces.

Interfaces play an important role in a variety of applications, both in soft matter, quantum materials as well as in the food industry and energy storage devices. Neutrons are a unique probe to study the structure and dynamics of matter. The advent of High Currenct Accelerator-driven Neutron Surces (HiCANS) will make access to neutrons easier than today’s sources. With HiCANS, large universities and research centres will be able to host their own neutron sources, gaining independence from large facilities using nuclear reactors or spallation sources.

The Australian Nuclear Science and Technology Organisation (ANSTO) and the Helmholtz Zentrum Berlin (HZB) are pleased to announce the ANSTO – HZB Neutron Training Course 2024.

European Spallation Source

The International Conference on Neutron Scattering (ICNS) 2025 is a meeting and discussion place for everyone that uses neutrons as a tool for scientific research and development. The scientific program will contain the relevant disciplines, as well as neutron facilities, instrumentation and software. The conference will consist of a mixture of plenary sessions, parallel sessions, poster sessions, and sponsor presentations. Furthermore, a number of prizes will be awarded.
