Abstract
Gas-phase synthesis allows the production of a large variety of complex nanoparticles for various applications and is especially suited for scaling-up, already proven by several industrial processes. In this two-day international symposium at the UDE the fundamentals of particle formation and growth in relevant nanoparticle synthesis processes such as plasma and flame synthesis are presented. Furthermore, recent model-based approaches and simulation to predict synthesis processes and particle properties are discussed. Finally, the industrial-relevant scale-up of synthesis processes and possible applications of the produced nanomaterials are presented. This international symposium is organized within the frame of the Horizon 2020 project Nanomaterials via Gas-Phase Synthesis: A Design-Oriented Modelling and Engineering Approach (NanoDome) and the DFG research unit (FOR 2284 Model-based scalable gas-phase synthesis of complex nanoparticles.

International Conference on Self-Healing Materials
ID
781844
Dates
25 Jun 2017 - 28 Jun 2017
Location
Friedrichshafen, Germany
Abstract
The programme of the ICSHM will not only reflect mechanisms, materials, characterisation and processes but also the huge potential of self-healing materials in all application areas. It will be structured in three main streams: “Soft Matter Self-healing Materials”, “Hard Matter Self-healing Materials” and as research and development of self-healing materials has suffered several hurdles in the last years towards further commercialisation the conference will have a special emphasis on “Self-healing Materials in Industrial Applications”.

Parallel to this, topical workshops will be held. The workshops should especially help young scientists to broaden their views and to stimulate new ideas. One of such workshops will be devoted to demonstrating the route from fundamental science to the realisation in industrial practice.

ECI — Ultra-High Temperature Ceramics: Materials for Extreme Environment Applications IV
ID
812557
Dates
17 Sep 2017 - 20 Sep 2017
Location
Windsor, United Kingdom
Abstract
Ultra-High Temperature Ceramics are a family of compounds that display a unique set of properties, including extremely high melting temperatures (>3000°C), high hardness and good chemical stability and strength at high temperatures. Structural materials for use in high-temperature oxidizing environments are presently limited mostly to SiC, Si3N4, oxide ceramics and composites of these materials. The maximum use temperatures of silicon-based ceramics is limited to ~1600°C due to the onset of active oxidation (lower temperatures in water vapour environments), whilst oxides have exhibited high creep rates at higher temperatures. The development of structural materials for use in oxidizing and rapid heating environments at temperatures above 1600°C is therefore of great engineering importance.

MSM17 — 10th International Conference on Magnetic and Superconducting Materials
ID
850862
Dates
18 Sep 2017 - 21 Sep 2017
Location
Tehran, Iran
Abstract
In recent years there have been various breakthroughs in the science and technology of superconducting and magnetic materials. Despite the vast achievements made after these discoveries, further advances are required in the basic understanding and application of these very important and applicable materials. A plan for the first event of the series of Magnetic and Superconducting Materials (MSM) biannual conferences started in 1997, and (MSM99) was first organized at Sharif University of Technology in September 1999. Nine successful MSM conferences have been held in different countries so far. These conferences aimed to bring together regional and international research groups and technologists of related companies to discuss new materials, their results and current problems in the areas of superconductivity, magnetism, novel materials and also in the general field of low temperature physics.

I have the great pleasure to announce that we are organizing the 10th International Conference on Magnetic and Superconducting Materials (MSM17) at Sharif University of Technology in Tehran, Iran during 18-21 September 2017. This conference is intended to address the recent developments and improvements in the science and engineering of superconductivity and magnetism and their applications. The conference themes are designed to attract researchers and educators to share their recent findings and techniques in these fields.

3rd MMAP — 3rd Molecules and Materials for Artificial Photosynthesis Conference
ID
879274
Dates
02 Mar 2018 - 05 Mar 2018
Location
Cancun, United Kingdom
Abstract
The replacement of fossil fuels by a clean and renewable energy source is one of the most urgent and challenging issues our society is facing today, which is why intense research is devoted to this topic recently. Nature has been using sunlight as the primary energy input to oxidize water and generate carbohydrates (a solar fuel) for over a billion years. Inspired, but not constrained, by nature, artificial systems can be designed to capture light and oxidize water and reduce protons or other organic compounds to generate useful chemical fuels. Significant progress has been made recently in artificial photosynthesis based on molecular chemistry and material science. However, developments in these two areas have occurred more independently than what is perhaps desired. In the present meeting, we will bring together researchers in these two scientific communities to explore possible synergistic effects of “fusion” between molecular and materials systems.
