Abstract
Die Veranstaltung richtet sich an Personen, die sich mit Massenspektrometrie beschäftigen und dabei Grundkenntnisse der Spektreninterpretation benötigen, um die Resultate einer Spektrensuche zu evaluieren oder einfachere Spektren unbekannter Substanzen selbst zu interpretieren. Die Vermittlung der Grundlagen zur Strukturidentifizierung steht im Mittelpunkt. An Hand von Beispielen werden die Fragmentierungseigenschaften (Elektronen-Ionisation) von ausgewählten Stoffgruppen besprochen. Dabei wird speziell auf grundlegende Prinzipien der Interpretation eingegangen wie Anwendung von Isopenverteilungen, Erkennen von Heteroatomen, Interpretation aller vorhandenen Fragmente und Elimination alternativer Strukturen. Zahlreiche Massenspektren werden während des Kurses besprochen. Zusätzlich lösen die Teilnehmer Übungsbeispiele.

Abstract
Die Veranstaltung richtet sich an Personen, welche den Vergleich von EI-Massenspektren mit Datenbanken (Bibliothekssuche) zur Strukturaufklärung verwenden (z.B. Screenings von Umweltproben) und diesen optimaler anwenden wollen. Neben den Grundlagen des automatisierten Spektrenvergleiches werden Informationen zur Optimierung des Suchprogrammes der NIST-Datenbank („NIST-Browser“) vermittelt. An Hand von Beispielen werden Möglichkeiten zur Subtraktion von Hintergrund und Ko-Elutionen demonstriert, sowie Strategien bei der Aufklärung von unbekannten Strukturen, deren Massenspektren nicht in den Datenbanken vorhanden sind. Hier können Algorithmen, welche Teilstrukturen identifizieren, hilfreiche Zusatzinformationen liefern, eine Identifikation der Stoffklasse oder in günstigen Fällen sogar der ganzen Struktur ermöglichen. Zahlreiche Beispiele werden vorgestellt und die Teilnehmer lösen dabei in der Diskussion eine Reihe von Problemen.

Achtung: Es werden Vorkenntnisse vorausgesetzt, die in dem Grundseminar „Interpretation von Massenspektren“ vermittelt werden. Personen, die äquivalente Vorkenntnisse und Übung haben, sind ebenfalls willkommen.
