Ways to engage with this theme include sessions on the history, accuracy, and improvements of conceptual models; forecast decision aides; forecaster-over-the-loop and ways to blend human and machine predictions; benefits of manual data analysis to the forecast or evaluation process; verification and ways to leverage verification information to improve forecaster expertise and performance, data assimilation, model skill, and economic benefit; methods to minimize bias in decisions; hiring and retention practices for all career levels; and team building approaches. This meeting will include a variety of talks on mental health issues and professional and personal development to assist us as we tackle upcoming challenges and adapt to our ever-changing world.

Fast and Slow Thinking: The Human Factor in a Rapidly Changing World

Each year, RRNW hosts researchers, scientists, and field professionals from the Pacific Northwest and beyond to share knowledge and collaborate on the latest in river restoration practices and research. This unique event seeks to share knowledge across disciplines and takes a holistic approach to river restoration at a one-of-a-kind location with breathtaking views of the Columbia Gorge. Networking is a key component of the symposium, with participants having plenty of time to collaborate and be inspired. The intent of the Symposium is to convene, share information, and foster dialogue with a multi-disciplinary approach to stream restoration and related watershed and river sciences. Conference participants typically include restoration planners, designers, engineers, biologists, hydrologists, geomorphologists, regulators, scientists, and land and resource managers.

This casual, educational event will include two full days of presentations, panel discussions, interactive workshops, and networking opportunities of interest to the flood risk management community, with a special focus on the National Flood Insurance Program and private flood markets. Certified Floodplain Managers Will be able to earn continuing education credits from the Association of State Flood Plain Managers (ASFPM) for attending the conference.

National Association of Wetland Managers (NAWM)

This will be an amazing opportunity to gather together as a wetland community of practice, build partnerships, and explore new opportunities for wetland protection and restoration. The meeting sessions will cover a range of topics related to the management of our nation’s precious wetland resources, with particular focus on wetland stewardship, new pathways for wetlands policy and conservation, effective and creative partnerships, and innovations in restoration.
