The G-ETS focus on Earth tides and non-tidal loading, such as atmospheric, oceanic and hydrological loading, Earth's variable rotation, geodetic monitoring of reservoirs and volcanoes. Accent is also put on geodetic monitoring of surface deformation and mass redistributions by space techniques (GNSS, GRACE and GRACE-FollowOn, InSAR) as well as to innovative techniques and instruments (for instance cold-atom gravimeters) and their applications to the Earth's dynamics.

The workshop series was initiated in 1987 in Neustadt an der Weinstrasse, Germany, and workshops usually take place every two years. They have been located throughout Europe, including France, the Netherlands, the Czech Republic, Italy and Switzerland. The workshops, previously known as International Workshops on Mantle and Lithosphere Dynamics, were renamed in 2018 by the EGU Topical Events Committee in honour of the 19th century English mathematician Ada Lovelace.

The goals of this conference series are: Encourage detailed discussion on scientific and technical aspects of geodynamic modeling, Foster interaction with neighbouring disciplines, Introduce students and postdocs in an informal setting to current geodynamic research, Support international collaboration.

IS-Grenoble 2022 will be the fifth quadrennial international symposium organized under the auspices of Technical Committee 105 (Geomechanics from Micro to Macro) of the International Society for Soil Mechanics and Geotechnical Engineering (ISSMGE). The preceding symposia were held at Yamaguchi University, Japan in 2006, Tongji University, China in 2010, Cambridge University, England in 2014, and Georgia Tech, USA in 2018. As with these previous events, this symposium seeks to advance the objectives of TC 105 to: promote cooperation and exchange of information about the behavior of soil grains and granular interactions; promote improved modeling of soil aggregates; encourage a micro-structural understanding of significant macroscopic behavior; facilitate discussion on the use of micro-structural measurements to enhance soil characterization procedures; and clarify the selection and use of continuum parameters in geotechnical engineering practice.
