STAHY2022 — 12th International Workshop on Statistical Hydrology

Résumé:
The International Commission on Statistical Hydrology (ICSH) of the International Association of Hydrological Sciences (IAHS) invites researchers to submit abstracts for presentation at the 12th International Workshop on Statistical Hydrology (STAHY2022), which will be hosted by the University of Cagliari in Chia, Sardinia (Italy), 17-20 September 2022. STAHY2022 workshop will bring together experts and young scientists alike for vibrant scientific discussions and debates on advanced statistical methods for hydrological applications. New insights and new approaches to characterize hydrological processes considering climate and global changes, inter- and intra-annual variability, statistical projections, and seasonal predictions are particularly welcome.

8th EGU Galileo Conference: European Vision for Hydrological Observations and Experimentation

Résumé:
In the next decades, expected changes in the water cycle will be a major driver in shaping our environment and its ecosystems. Water is the key factor for life and for sustaining food, feed and biomass for energy production in today’s bio-based economies. The water cycle will be strongly affected by climate change but the extent and impact on ecosystems functioning and services are only roughly known. Increasing hydrological extremes, such as floods and droughts, may lead to severe ecological, economic and societal impacts. In a recent review, Vereecken et al. (2015) urged the hydrological science community to establish a network of hydrological observatories in Europe. At present, there is no concerted and dedicated action in the field of hydrology neither in Europe nor world-wide with respect to making hydrological data accessible to the research community and in designing cross-catchment experiments.

Résumé:
The conference will be a platform for participants to discuss the current situation, challenges, and advancements related to debris flows, from triggering to deposition, passing through the analysis of their propagation dynamics and interaction with mitigation structures. Physical and numerical modelling together with the description of real cases, site surveys and investigations will be the tools to allow sharing novelty, experiences and best practices. With this in mind, and following the successful 7th edition held in Colorado, USA, in 2019, the Organizing Committee has set the goal to prepare a stimulating scientific program for scientists, professionals, and policy makers.
