ACM SAC BIO 2021 — The ACM Symposium on Applied Computing Track on Bioinformatics
22 mar 2021 - 26 mar 2021 • Gwangju, Corée du Sud
Organisateur:
Chosun University and Chonnam National University
Résumé:
The ACM SAC 2021 Bioinformatics Track aims at promoting current advances in biological sciences, drug development and medicine relying on analytical methods that integrate mathematical, physical and computer sciences. Papers are solicited in, but not limited to the following areas: Bioinformatics, Computational biology, Computational methods for cell and molecular biology, Computational methods for microbiology and synthetic biology, Computational methods for neurobiology and development, Computational methods for personalized/precision medicine, Computational methods for pharmacogenomics. The track accepts 2 types of submissions: (1) papers and (2) student-led posters, which are double-blindly reviewed by at least three reviewers. Double-blindly means that the author of a paper does not know the reviewers of his/her paper and reviewers do not know the authors of the papers they reviewed. GESB21 — Genome Engineering and Synthetic Biology (4th edition).
23 sep 2021 - 24 sep 2021 • Gand, Belgique
Organisateur:
VIB
Résumé:
Genome Engineering and Synthetic Biology are revolutionizing Life Sciences. Driven by advances in the CRISPR-toolbox for rapid, cheap, multiplex modification of genomes and breakthroughs in DNA synthesis technologies, the pace of progress enabled by these tools in the last years has been breathtaking. The first three editions (September 2013, January 2016, January 2018) were a roaring success and we are pleased to announce the 4th edition of GESB in beautiful Ghent in September, 2021.

Mathematical Methods in Cancer Biology, Evolution and Therapy
24 oct 2021 - 29 oct 2021 • Hangzhou, Chine
Organisateur:
Institute for Advanced Study in Mathematics (IASM) in Hangzhou, China, and the Banff International Research Station for Mathematical Innovation and Discovery (BIRS) in Banff, Canada
Résumé:
Present day biology generates a wealth of data from which tumor biology and tumor evolution can be inferred, and therapeutic strategies can be developed. Most clinical (and research) samples are comprised of a mixture of different cells, including multiple different populations of cancer cells (‘subclones’) and a variety of normal cell types. Effective use of these data thus requires data from individual cell types to be deconvolved. A number of subfields are independently developing mathematical and statistical deconvolution techniques. While at first glance these subfields are largely disparate, there are clear opportunities for synergies to be developed. This workshop will fill this gap by bringing together researchers from several of these fragmented subfields across a wide range of backgrounds (computational biology, mathematics, statistics, computer science, biomedicine, etc.) to provide a synergistic forum for cross-disciplinary learning, discussion and collaboration.

Workshop on New Mathematical Theory to Understand the Effects of Evolution on Range Expansion
02 nov 2021 - 05 nov 2021 • The Fields Institute –Toronto, Ontario, Canada
Organisateur:
The Fields Institute for Research in Mathematical Sciences
Résumé:
Many biological species exhibit range shifts: some spread after being introduced into new environments, others follow their preferred climatic conditions under global change. Recent theoretical and empirical results highlight the importance of evolutionary change in these ecological processes. Specifically, they show that evolution can be the driving mechanism behind the range expansion of plants and animals, and that scientists may be underestimating how quickly species can move. However, the ecological and evolutionary processes involved in range expansions have mostly been studied separately, and despite recent advances in theory and experiments, making predictions about the speed of expansion is inherently difficult. The goal of this workshop is to convene mathematicians, modellers, and empiricists to exchange recent results on eco-evolutionary dynamics in species' range expansions and to develop novel mathematical frameworks to address important questions such as the relative contributions of ecological processes, evolutionary processes and environmental conditions on the speed and the variation in speed of range expansion.
