EMBL Course: Whole Transcriptome Data Analysis
28 sep 2020 - 02 oct 2020 • Heidelberg, Allemagne
Résumé:
This course will teach the biological researchers how to analyse biological data sets using open-source software. Most of the analysis will be performed with docker4seq package, which was developed to facilitate the use of computing demanding applications in the field of NGS data analysis. Docker4seq package uses docker containers that embed demanding computing tasks (e.g. short reads mapping) into isolated containers. This approach provides multiple advantages: the user does not need to install all the software on its local server, the results generated by different containers can be organised in pipelines and reproducible research is guarantee by the possibility of sharing the docker images used for the analysis.

Workshop — Mathematics and Statistics of Genomic Epidemiology
08 nov 2020 - 13 nov 2020 • Oaxaca, Mexique
Organisateur:
BIRS-affiliated mathematics research centre, Casa Matemática Oaxaca (CMO)
Résumé:
This workshop will focus on some mathematical and statistical challenges faced by the discipline of genomic epidemiology, which tries to study the spread, transmission, and other characteristics of infectious disease-causing microbes by leveraging the information contained in their genome. These challenges are exacerbated by the large amounts of data, the relative difficulty of ascertaining transmission patterns in real-life observations, and the inherent heterogeneity of microbes.

EMBO | EMBL Symposium: Biological Oscillators: Design, Mechanism, Function
09 nov 2020 - 11 nov 2020 • Heidelberg, Allemagne
Résumé:
Oscillations are abundant - from hormonal oscillations with periods of days and months, to genetic fluctuations in the range of hours (circadian clock, embryonic oscillators), and metabolic and biochemical oscillations in the order of minutes (glycolytic oscillations) and seconds (Calcium-dynamics) - oscillations are central to biology across different temporal and spatial scales. At this symposium multiple disciplines will come together in order to discuss common mechanisms underlying the generation of oscillations. This symposium aims to further strengthen a new, highly interdisciplinary community composed of scientists from very different fields and who share a common interest in oscillatory phenomena and biological dynamics. As such, this meeting provides a unique platform for this emerging new community working at the interface between quantitative biology, complex oscillatory systems and physics.

EMBL Conference: From Functional Genomics to Systems Biology
15 nov 2020 - 18 nov 2020 • Heidelberg, Allemagne
Résumé:
The main objective of this conference is to bring people together from diverse disciplines to exchange ideas, promote cross-disciplinary collaborations and to form a synthesis of appropriate systems-level approaches. The meeting is therefore purposely broad to cover all aspects of genomics to systems biology, a unique combination that is highly appreciated by the participants. Over the past decade, this EMBL conference has therefore served as an important venue in helping to shape the field, or to be more precise to help generate a community of scientists that come from very diverse disciplines, each with the common goal to understand the systems level properties of their system of interest.

ACM SAC BIO 2021 — The ACM Symposium on Applied Computing Track on Bioinformatics
22 mar 2021 - 26 mar 2021 • Gwangju, Corée du Sud
Organisateur:
Chosun University and Chonnam National University
Résumé:
The ACM SAC 2021 Bioinformatics Track aims at promoting current advances in biological sciences, drug development and medicine relying on analytical methods that integrate mathematical, physical and computer sciences. Papers are solicited in, but not limited to the following areas: Bioinformatics, Computational biology, Computational methods for cell and molecular biology, Computational methods for microbiology and synthetic biology, Computational methods for neurobiology and development, Computational methods for personalized/precision medicine, Computational methods for pharmacogenomics. The track accepts 2 types of submissions: (1) papers and (2) student-led posters, which are double-blindly reviewed by at least three reviewers. Double-blindly means that the author of a paper does not know the reviewers of his/her paper and reviewers do not know the authors of the papers they reviewed. Mathematical Methods in Cancer Biology, Evolution and Therapy
24 oct 2021 - 29 oct 2021 • Hangzhou, Chine
Organisateur:
Institute for Advanced Study in Mathematics (IASM) in Hangzhou, China, and the Banff International Research Station for Mathematical Innovation and Discovery (BIRS) in Banff, Canada
Résumé:
Present day biology generates a wealth of data from which tumor biology and tumor evolution can be inferred, and therapeutic strategies can be developed. Most clinical (and research) samples are comprised of a mixture of different cells, including multiple different populations of cancer cells (‘subclones’) and a variety of normal cell types. Effective use of these data thus requires data from individual cell types to be deconvolved. A number of subfields are independently developing mathematical and statistical deconvolution techniques. While at first glance these subfields are largely disparate, there are clear opportunities for synergies to be developed. This workshop will fill this gap by bringing together researchers from several of these fragmented subfields across a wide range of backgrounds (computational biology, mathematics, statistics, computer science, biomedicine, etc.) to provide a synergistic forum for cross-disciplinary learning, discussion and collaboration.
