The recent innovations in smart materials and material engineering attempts to mimic the adaptive and sustainable characteristics accompanied with intelligent physical properties and active as well as passive control.in many technical systems and applications. Moreover, smart materials will also have some unique properties to couple the mechanical and non-mechanical properties and they also have major groups like magnetostrictive materials, shape memory alloys, piezoelectric, shape memory alloys, electro-magneto systems. Nowadays, smart material technologies are leveraging remarkable properties in emerging fields like robotics, bio-engineering, aerospace, mechanical system control, and so on. In order to consolidate and discuss the state-of-the-art research innovations in this emerging smart materials paradigm, the International Conference on trends in Smart Material Engineering and Technology 2021 [ICSMT 2021] has been planned. Nevertheless, ICSMT 2021 primarily aims on presenting the general overview, research contribution, and the recent research innovations in material science engineering, smart materials and its applications.

Keeping in view, the importance of mineral based products and valorization of mineral waste in the world, the Mineral Business Development (MBD-2021) conference and exhibition is being organized by a team of experts from the mineral industry and academia. The main objective of this conference is to highlight the major advances in value addition of minerals and utilization of wastes, which directly promotes the Government of India initiative of ‘Make in India’. Despite having vast mineral resources and qualified technical manpower, India is lagging behind in the production of value-added mineral products and import several high-end mineral based products, which can be produced in India. Country offers excellent opportunities in attracting foreign investments and in export of value-added mineral products. With the depletion of rich grade mineral resources at fast pace it will become imperative to utilize the low-grade mineral resources. A logical extension of this would-be induction of latest beneficiation technologies and processes for value addition.

ITRS 2021 — 2nd Virtual International Tribology Research Symposium

Tribology is a multi-disciplinary subject dealing with the study of interacting surfaces in relative motion. Over the years, Tribology has been recognized as a very important aspect in all industrial operations. The application of correct tribological practices can protect and enhance the life of plants and machinery, improves efficiency of operations, reduce energy consumption and prevent expensive breakdowns. Keep this in thought; Dr. Jitendra Kumar Katiyar and Prof. TVVLN Rao (SRMIST) proposed the idea “Impact of Tribology on Society” along with Dr. Anuj Kumar Sharma (CAS-AKTU) and Dr. Mir Irfan Ul Haq (SMVDU) and conducted on 5-7th November 2020 in virtual mode. In this symposium, more than 220 abstract within 35 days effort from various countries such as India, USA, Mexico, Japan, UK, Italy, France, Malaysia, Hungary, Indonesia, and Saudi Arabia etc. was received. From India, the abstract came from IISc, IITs, NITs, Government Research Labs, and Private Organizations. ITRS was published 5 Special Issues and 4 Regular Issues in Reputed SCI/ESCI Journals. The breakup of paper includes ~ 45 from outside, ~ 100 from institute of national importance and government research organization, ~ 80 from private universities and colleges from India.

Further, the aim of the symposium is to bring together leading industrialists, engineers, academicians, scientists, researchers, research scholars and students to exchange and share their experiences and research results covering broad spectrum of topics related to Tribology. It also provides an opportunity to the participants to present and discuss the most recent innovations, trends, practical challenges encountered, and the solutions adopted in the field of Friction and Wear to cater for the needs of the ever-growing technological world.

The unique feature of this 2nd symposium is to highlight Tribology for Sustainability & Reliability with new approaches. Such approaches are necessary for overall wellbeing of human life and for growth of economy.

STIS series of conferences, held once every four years, is an Indian initiative, the major objective of which is to create and sustain interest in iron making and steelmaking. India has emerged as the world's second largest steel producer. The steel production in India needs to match the pace with rapidly growing Indian economy. At the same time, India is also committed to achieve the global environmental goals through sustainable and green steel production.
