Workshop — Novel Technologies for Programming Human Cell Fate
26 mar 2023 - 29 mar 2023 • Eastwell Manor, Kent, Royaume-Uni
Organisateur:
The Company of Biologists Ltd
Résumé:
This Workshop unites experts in human cell fate engineering and experts in the manipulation and characterisation of single cells. The goal is to fully understand the molecular steps underlying the transformation of one cellular identity into another. The cross-disciplinary selection of speakers spans the fields of cell fate engineering and emerging technologies to analyse and manipulate cells at single-cell resolution.
Sujets:
Direct lineage reprogramming approaches, Assessment of reprogramming inefficiency and infidelity, Engineering cells with defined identity through new methods, De novo predictions of factors and conditions for target cell type generation

Inside Out: New Frontiers in the Comparative Physiology of the Vertebrate Gut
25 jui 2023 - 28 jui 2023 • Wiston House, West Sussex, Royaume-Uni
Organisateur:
The Company of Biologists Ltd
Résumé:
This Workshop will bring together experts from a wide range of disciplines to examine the functioning of the vertebrate gastro-intestinal tract though the lens of integrative physiology. Until recently, the gut was the poor relation to other exchange sites with the environment (lungs, gills, and kidneys) in terms of scientific investigation. Indeed, it received scant attention from most comparative physiologists apart from the routine (but questionable) practice of starving their test animals prior to experimentation “so as to standardize their metabolic physiology”. However, many young researchers entering the field of gastro-intestinal physiology have radically altered the landscape, and many established researchers are now switching their focus to this area. Of particular significance has been the recent explosion of research on the importance of the microbiome for digestive health, not only in humans but in animals in general. The gastro-intestinal field is rapidly expanding, and now is a very appropriate time for the cross-disciplinary fertilization that this workshop will encourage.

SPLW02 — Active mechanics, from single cells to cell layers, tissues and development
04 sep 2023 - 08 sep 2023 • Cambridge , Royaume-Uni
Organisateur:
Isaac Newton Institute for Mathematical Sciences (INI)
Résumé:
This workshop brings together experimental and theoretical researchers who work on cell mechanics, on three different scales. At the microscopic scale, the cytoskeletal active network shapes the cell and generates active forces. At the mesoscale, the collective motion and mechanics of cells gives rises to tissues such as epithelial cell sheets which have become a premier biophysical model system. In the full biological context of cell and developmental mechanics, such as in model tissue organoids, shapes and function arise through the interplay of this active mechanics with morphogens and signalling. Our workshop will explore these three scales of size and complexity, with a view towards bridging the gaps between communities and developing a true multiscale understanding.
