The Future of Medieval France
23 fév 2023 - 25 fév 2023 • UCLA Campus, États-Unis
Organisateur:
UCLA
Résumé:
An international conference on the past, present, and future of medieval studies in Europe. In honor of John W. Baldwin

Bringing together scholars of medieval France from the Anglophone and Francophone worlds, the conference will honor the legacy of John W. Baldwin who bridged the two and look into the future of medieval France in the global context. What does it mean to study medieval France today, when academic research and funding trends increasingly seem to decenter France? While this conference focuses on France, the reflection is relevant for all of Europe. Why and how, then, should we study medieval France and Europe? How can we reform or decolonize the medieval European fields from within while remaining true to the time period, its geographies, mentalities, and connectivities?

14C and Diet III — 3rd Radiocarbon & Diet Conference
20 jui 2023 - 23 jui 2023 • Oxford, Royaume-Uni
Organisateur:
University of Oxford, School of Archaeology
Résumé:
As in previous meetings the major focus of this workshop will be on aspects of past dietary adaptations of prehistoric human groups and the application of radiocarbon, coupled with stable isotopes that gives insight into past diet. There is growing awareness of the link between radiocarbon variation and dietary choice and the influence on the construction of reliable chronologies. We welcome presentations which apply diet-related stable isotopes to the archaeological past, including carbon, nitrogen, oxygen, hydrogen and sulphur, and link this with radiocarbon dating to understand more fully the chronology of sites and regions.

INQUA XXI — XXI INQUA Congress in Rome 2023
13 jul 2023 - 20 jul 2023 • Rome, Italie
Organisateur:
Sapienza University of Rome and National Research Council (CNR)
Résumé:
The theme of the congress is “a Mediterranean perspective on Quaternary Sciences” since we strongly believe that the Mediterranean region, so geologically young and active, is the ideal place where to discuss the processes and events that shaped the landscape, the environment and the ecosystems in the last 2.58 million years. From the glacial systems in the Alps to the desert facing the southern shore, from the large coastal plains and deltas to the rocky coasts where the mountain ranges reach the sea, from the karst to the lacustrine to the volcanic environments, almost all of the Quaternary features are present in the region. The congress is organized by Sapienza University, the National Research Council and the Italian Association for Quaternary Studies in cooperation with the whole body of Italian Quaternary scientists. It also relies on support provided by the main Italian scientific societies and governmental institutions dealing with Quaternary themes as well as by many countries from around the Mediterranean.
