09 jui 2022 - 10 jui 2022 • Barcelona, Espagne
Organisateur:
Universitat de Barcelona, GEHC
Résumé:
The Cartography History Study Group (Grup d’Estudis d’Història de la Cartografia, GEHC) is preparing, in collaboration with the Insititut Cartogràfic i Geològic de Catalunya, a new colloquium with the title City and territory in Spanish cartography: a historical perspective. The event will be held on June 9 and 10, 2022. The Cartography History Study Group has dealt with in previous colloquia the central theme of the history of urban cartography. The present colloquium is dedicated to one aspect of this cartography: that which relates the city to its nearby territory, in such a way that its field of study is broadened towards cartography at a regional level. It would try to analyse the cartographic production resulting from the relationships between the city and its territorial environment. Examples of this type of cartography would be communications maps (railways, roads ...), drinking water supply, sanitation, environmental planning (prevention of natural risks, protected areas ...), port and airport spaces, administrative districts of all kinds derived from the urban authority, strategic military with a wide territorial scope …

SUMMER SCHOOL — The Archives of Islam in the Russian Empire (16th-early 20th Centuries)..
27 jui 2022 - 01 jul 2022 • Vienne, Autriche
Organisateur:
Committee for the Study of Islam in Central Eurasia (ÖAW)
Résumé:
The summer school is designed to explore a range of scholarly approaches to the hermeneutics of records and the formation of archives on Islam in the territories of the former Russian Empire in the early modern and modern period. Here the term “archive” is used in a broad and all-encompassing sense, which includes all possible activities of record-keeping. The goal of this initiative is to draw attention on practices of information-gathering and knowledge production on the Muslim communities inhabiting the vast area encompassing Inner Asia, Siberia, Central Asia and the Caucasus from the fall of the Khanate of Kazan (1552) to the end of the Russian Empire. In addition, by bringing archival science into conversation with Russian and Islamic studies, the summer school promotes an extended reflection on the institutions and the individuals (archivists, historians, Orientalists, dragomans, and go-betweens of all walks of life) who played a significant role in the creation of the imperial repositories that today preserve records about Islam and Muslim communities in Central Eurasia.

Organisateur:
European Association of Archaeologists (EAA)
Résumé:
The 2022 Budapest Annual Meeting is planned to be an onsite conference with many personal encounters. Yet, EAA has built up a strategy that wishes to involve Members for whom, for whatever reasons, travelling and onsite attendance is not an option. Thus, while inviting everyone to come and participate in this unique event, we shall try to offer complementary online streaming of some events, perhaps keynote talks and a few sessions, according to our financial and technical possibilities. As we believe, hybrid meetings are the future.

SHA 2023 — Conference on Historical and Underwater Archaeology
06 jan 2023 - 09 jan 2023 • Lisbonne, Portugal
Organisateur:
The Society for Historical Archaeology
Résumé:
The proposed theme for the conference not only references the international location and outlook of the meeting alongside the modern history of Lisbon as the center of one of the most significant global European empires of the early modern period, but also acknowledges the transformation of historical archaeology into a truly global discipline. It is envisioned that the theme will encourage individual papers and symposia that address the increasingly global character of the discipline in the past, present and future, as well as themes of movement and diaspora, and industrialization and mechanization. Many European archaeologists also define ‘historical’ archaeology differently, noting that the historical record dates back to earlier periods, and this conference may provide the opportunity to explore disciplinary definitions in a global context while still focusing on the post-1500 world.

Formed by 83 charter members in 1930, the AABA now has an international membership of over 2,200. INQUA XXI — XXI INQUA Congress in Rome 2023
13 jul 2023 - 20 jul 2023 • Rome, Italie
Organisateur:
Sapienza University of Rome and National Research Council (CNR)
Résumé:
The theme of the congress is “a Mediterranean perspective on Quaternary Sciences” since we strongly believe that the Mediterranean region, so geologically young and active, is the ideal place where to discuss the processes and events that shaped the landscape, the environment and the ecosystems in the last 2.58 million years. From the glacial systems in the Alps to the desert facing the southern shore, from the large coastal plains and deltas to the rocky coasts where the mountain ranges reach the sea, from the karst to the lacustrine to the volcanic environments, almost all of the Quaternary features are present in the region. The congress is organized by Sapienza University, the National Research Council and the Italian Association for Quaternary Studies in cooperation with the whole body of Italian Quaternary scientists. It also relies on support provided by the main Italian scientific societies and governmental institutions dealing with Quaternary themes as well as by many countries from around the Mediterranean.
