The Surgical Leadership Program is the Harvard Medical School post-graduate certificate program for surgeons seeking to step into and succeed in leadership positions and acquire skills needed to excel as heads of departments, divisions, projects, and institutions at large. Participants learn directly from Harvard’s leading faculty across all areas influencing surgical leadership, including communication, mentoring, process and quality improvement, change management, financial management, and surgical research and technique. This program was designed with surgeons’ busy schedules in mind. It is anchored by three international 4-day workshops in London, Boston and Shanghai, which aim to create interactive learning using Harvard's case method. Additional core teaching is delivered through interactive webinars delivered by international experts and more than 40 on-demand lectures, which you can view at your convenience. The course culminates with a personalized Capstone Project, enabling you to apply what you have learned in a context that advances your immediate and long-term goals in your home institution.

Fetal and Women's Imaging 2019: Advanced OB-GYN Ultrasound

We welcome back Program Directors Mary E. Norton and Roya Sohaey for this annual three-day advanced OB-GYN course in Seattle. For experienced physicians and sonographers, this curriculum covers skills and techniques to help you improve fetal brain and in-depth cardiac scanning, as well as imaging of the musculoskeletal, genitourinary, gastrointestinal and other systems. Become proficient at imaging and diagnosis during all three trimesters in order to scan both routine and high-risk pregnancy scenarios, including fetal intervention. Using gynecologic ultrasound in the diagnosis and treatment of adenomyosis and adnexal masses, and sonography of gynecologic emergencies will also be covered. This course is designed for physicians, nurse practitioners, physician assistants, certified nurse midwives, nurses, sonographers, and radiologic technologists who work in a clinical practice setting using maternal-fetal ultrasound for diagnosis and screening.

A grant from Bay Area Lyme Foundation has subsidized the cost of the program for participants; fees are $300 for physicians, and $225 for nurses/allied health professionals.

MPN Congress — 12th International Congress on Myeloproliferative Neoplasms

Since the inaugural Congress in 2001, this meeting has become the premier forum for discussion on the latest advances in myeloproliferative neoplasms (MPNs). This year, the Congress will focus on timely topics of interest to hematologists and oncologists who treat patients with these rare disorders. The Congress program format will utilize case presentations to highlight the essential features of MPN pathophysiology, diagnosis and management, as well as the roles of next generation sequencing and the MPN driver mutation and allele burden in clinical decision making. In addition to defining the role of pegylated interferon and its long-acting derivatives in MPN therapy, the role of immunotherapy in the MPNs and novel agents for MPN treatment will be reviewed. New this year will be a discussion of the management of accelerated and blast phase MPN, patient selection for bone marrow transplantation, and how to integrate MPN patient symptom scores with therapeutic planning. The program features a world class faculty and highly interactive sessions designed to engage participants and provide a state-of-the-art learning experience.

We will cover first and second trimester congenital anomalies, including a special lecture on how a surgeon treats cleft lip and palate. You’ll also learn the basics in assessing pregnancies at risk for placenta accreta spectrum since it is now 1:300 pregnancies. The increasing incidence of ectopic pregnancy and the unusual presentation of various types of ectopic will be presented. Gynecological ultrasound will include ultrasound of endometrium, pelvic pain and adnexa.
