5 Day Workshop at BIRS — Optimal Transport and Analysis for Machine Learning
10 mai 2020 - 15 mai 2020 • Banff, Alberta, Canada
Résumé:
Optimal transport has now become an integral part of models for important tasks in machine learning, including deep learning and domain transfer. Recently, analytical approaches have shown to provide important information about the behavior of the functions that model key tasks in machine learning, including their asymptotics and stability, as well as their numerical optimization. The aim of the workshop is to bring together experts, as well as young researchers, in optimal transportation, applied analysis, scientific computing, and machine learning, to consider some of the interesting and deep research questions that would benefit from joint expertise.

2020 School on Column Generation
26 mai 2020 - 29 mai 2020 • Montréal (Quebec), Canada
Résumé:
The 2020 School on Column Generation is the fourth of its kind (after Paris, France, in 2018 and 2014, Darmstadt, Germany, in 2010 and Montréal, Canada, in 2006) and aims at teaching the state-of-the-art in column generation and branch-and-price to advanced students and PhD students but also to practitioners and researchers interested. The lectures will be given by renowned scientists in the field. The participants will have the opportunity to present their own research or application problems in order to foster discussions and create a "real workshop atmosphere".
Sujets:
Basic theory (decompositions, reformulations, convexification, discretization, etc.), vehicle routing and crew scheduling applications, shortest path subproblems, column generation heuristics, master problem issues (stabilization, aggregation), branching and cutting

APARM — (The 9th Asia-Pacific International Symposium on Advanced Reliability and Maintenance Modelling)
20 aou 2020 - 23 aou 2020 • Vancouver, Canada, Canada
Résumé:
Innovative tools for reliability analysis and decision making in design, operation and maintenance of engineering systems in today’s connected era, are critical for safe, reliable and effective operation of these systems. The 9th Asia-Pacific International Symposium on Advanced Reliability and Maintenance Modelling (APARM 2020) to be held at the Pan Pacific Hotel, Vancouver, Canada (August 21 to 24, 2020) aims to provide a friendly platform for synergistic exchanges of ideas and practices among academics and industry practitioners. The conference will cover a broad range of research and application topics relevant to reliability and maintenance.

2 Day Workshop at BIRS — Canadian Queueing Theorists and Practitioners Conference
21 aou 2020 - 23 aou 2020 • Banff, Alberta, Canada
Résumé:
Queueing theory is concerned with developing and investigating mathematical models of systems where “customers” wait for “service.” The terms “customers” and “servers” are generic. Customers could, for example, be humans waiting in a physical line or waiting on hold on the telephone, jobs waiting to be processed in a factory, or tasks waiting for processing in a computer or communication system. The CanQueue annual conference started from a workshop, organized by Prof. Alfa, at the University of Manitoba in 1999. Since then, twenty (20) CanQueue conferences have been held in Canada, including CanQueue 2002 at U of S; 2004 at UBC Okanagan, 2006 and 2011 at Banff, both sponsored by BIRS. It was a decision at the CanQueue2019, at Fields Institute in Toronto in August 2019 that CanQueue 2020 will be organized by us and held at Banff (based on the feedback from Canadian queueing community people).
