Analytic questions of a discrete nature are ubiquitous in many areas of mathematics and theoretical computer science. The purpose of this conference is to bring together a diverse group of experts working, broadly, on Discrete Analysis with particular emphasis on questions having a geometric component. The topics will include Boolean analysis, vector-valued harmonic analysis, metric embeddings, geometry of graphs and groups, and aspects of discrete probability and theoretical computer science.

AMS Special Session on Scalar Curvature and Topology

The interaction between topology and curvature is a fundamental theme in modern mathematics. The study of scalar curvature plays an increasingly important role not only in geometry and topology, but also in general relativity and theoretical physics more generally through the theory of Dirac operators. This special session will bring together experts and young researchers who study these topics from many different points of view. The aim of this session is to share viewpoints and progress on understanding the scalar curvature and topology of manifolds, and to establish new connections among the culturally diverse groups spread worldwide, but particularly in the USA.

Applications of Harmonic Analysis to Convex Geometry

The study of geometric properties of convex bodies based on information about sections or projections of these bodies belongs to the area of geometric tomography and has important applications to many areas of mathematics and science, in general. In recent years, there has been a significant increase in the interaction between harmonic analysis and convex geometry, leading to solutions for several longstanding open problems, the discovery of new phenomena, and many new intriguing open questions. The goal of this workshop is to bring together young and established researchers to discuss recent developments and advance applications of harmonic analysis to convex geometry and geometric tomography.

Techniques and tools for the formalization of analysis

Zusammenfassung:
Formalization of mathematics is the process by which pen-and-paper mathematics is translated into a strict chain of logical deductions down to the axioms of mathematics. The subject has seen renewed interest in the last decades, thanks to the development of computer systems, called proof assistants, which make this feasible in practice. There have now been several examples of high-profile mathematical results which have been formalized. In principle any mathematical domain is accessible, but existing projects are skewed towards algebra instead of analysis. Notable exceptions are a project which formalized enough of Gromov’s convex integration theory to deduce Smale’s sphere eversion theorem, and the ongoing project to formalize Carleson’s convergence theorem for Fourier series. This workshop will bring together formalization experts and interested mathematicians to give a new impulse to formalization of analysis (in a very broad sense), and to develop abstractions and tools to deduplicate effort.

The endeavor of provably computing rational points on curves stretches back millennia. In the last years the method of Chabauty and Coleman has seen major breakthroughs. The method itself has remarkable applications and currently there are several exciting generalisations being actively developed and applied. In addition to invited talks by established names in the field and an open problem session, we will offer speed talks to young researchers to advertise their work. The aim of this conference is also to foster future collaborations.

Complex dynamics concerns the iteration of analytic functions of one complex variable, an area of research established by Fatou and Julia towards the beginning of the last century, with Fatou’s seminal paper on the iteration of transcendental functions published in Acta Mathematica in 1926. This is now a highly active area of research with rapidly growing interactions with several other areas of mathematics. This workshop provides an opportunity to explore and celebrate the legacy of the last hundred years, and to identify the topics and interactions of most interest as we move into the next hundred years.

The main goal of this Workshop is to advance our understanding of metastability, critical behaviour, and long transients in models of Earth system to substantially improve our ability to anticipate critical behaviour. The topic covers a diverse spectrum of research disciplines: applied mathematics, data science, theoretical and statistical physics, complexity theory, climate science, paeloclimatology, and mathematical/theoretical ecology. Therefore, we will welcome diverse participants ranging from theoreticians to numerical modellers, and to experts in observations, experiments, data collection and postprocessing. We will focus on the nascent approaches and theories, and will explore the interdisciplinary aspects of the problem. We will also relate modelling the current global situation the Earth’s crises in the past, where changes in the climatic conditions or in its dominant patterns of variability caused mass extinction events. The workshop will consist of a set of insightful talks followed by joint discussions.

The workshop will be devoted to research on logical facets of complexity theory, especially the interplay between formal logical theories and computational complexity.

The workshop will bring together experts from a range of backgrounds to investigate these deep and important interdisciplinary problems.
