CIMPA Summer School on Elliptic Curves and their Applications
14. Jul 2025 - 26. Jul 2025 • Yerevan, Armenien
Veranstalter:
Institute of Mathematics, National Academy of Sciences of Armenia
Zusammenfassung:
The goal of the summer school is to introduce students and junior scientists to the basics of the theory of elliptic curves and their applications in modern number theory and cryptography. The origins of the theory of elliptic curves go back to the 19th century, but it has become a central area of number theory only in the 20th century with the work of Mordell, Hasse, Weil and many others. A particularly prominent developments were the formulation of the conjecture of Birch and Swinnerton-Dyer, and the discovery of connections between elliptic curves and modular forms. The celebrated proof of Fermat’s Last Theorem by Wiles is the first general result on the modularity of elliptic curves – a topic which is still very much at the forefront of research in number theory. Elliptic curves also have come to play an important role in modern cryptography, and they continue to be extensively studied for possible future cryptosystems resistant to quantum computing.

MPS Conference on Universal Statistics in Number Theory
10. Sep 2025 - 12. Sep 2025 • New York, NY, Vereinigte Staaten
Veranstalter:
Simons Foundation
Zusammenfassung:
Beyond Gaussians emerging from independence, for many correlated systems, new types of universal distributions have emerged in the past sixty years, which appear to effectively describe a wide range of statistical physics phenomena. Surprisingly, numerical and theoretical evidence has shown that these new, intricate statistics also reflect several aspects of the distribution of prime numbers, and of arithmetic objects in general. This question is relevant for all arithmetic topics covered in this meeting: conjectures from random matrix theory, distributions of multiplicative functions, limit theorems for L-functions, and the anatomy of integers.

CCA 2025 — 22nd International Conference on Computability and Complexity in Analysis
24. Sep 2025 - 26. Sep 2025 • Kyoto, Japan
Zusammenfassung:
The conference is concerned with the theory of computability and complexity over real-valued data. Computability and complexity theory are two central areas of research in mathematical logic and theoretical computer science. Computability theory is the study of the limitations and abilities of computers in principle. Computational complexity theory provides a framework for understanding the cost of solving computational problems, as measured by the requirement for resources such as time and space. The classical approach in these areas is to consider algorithms as operating on finite strings of symbols from a finite alphabet. Such strings may represent various discrete objects such as integers or algebraic expressions, but cannot represent general real or complex numbers, unless they are rounded. Most mathematical models in physics and engineering, however, are based on the real number concept. Thus, a computability theory and a complexity theory over the real numbers and over more general continuous data structures is needed. Despite remarkable progress in recent years many important fundamental problems have not yet been studied, and presumably numerous unexpected and surprising results are waiting to be detected. Scientists working in the area of computation on real-valued data come from different fields, such as theoretical computer science, domain theory, logic, constructive mathematics, computer arithmetic, numerical mathematics and all branches of analysis. The conference provides a unique opportunity for people from such diverse areas to meet, present work in progress and exchange ideas and knowledge.
Themen:
The topics of interest include foundational work on various models and approaches for describing computability and complexity over the real numbers. They also include complexity-theoretic investigations, both foundational and with respect to concrete problems, and new implementations of exact real arithmetic, as well as further developments of already existing software packages. We hope to gain new insights into computability-theoretic aspects of various computational questions from physics and from other fields involving computations over the real numbers.

We invite number theorists and mathematicians in adjacent fields from New England, eastern Canada, and beyond to speak about their research and discuss ideas for future work. Each year there is a change in venue: odd years at UMaine, even years at U. Laval.

Diophantine approximation and transcendence Approximation diophantienne et transcendance
10. Nov 2025 - 14. Nov 2025 • CIRM (Marseille Luminy), Frankreich
Veranstalter:
CIRM – Centre International de Rencontres Mathématiques
Zusammenfassung:
Diophantine approximation is a branch of Number Theory that can be described as the study of the solvability of inequalities in integers, though this main theme of the subject is often substantially generalized. As an example, one can be interested in properties of rational points of algebraic varieties defined over an algebraic number field, or as another example, one may study convergence rates of orbits for arithmetic dynamical systems. The proposed workshop is concerned with a variety of problems of this kind, which have seen important progress during the last few years. A detailed description is given below, where five (not unrelated) topics are emphasized. Among the new developments, let us mention works on the ZilberPink conjecture and on unlikely intersections; important progress in metric number theory; and progress towards the Uniform Boundedness Conjecture in dynamical systems.

Mathematical Analysis of Plasmas
03. Mai 2026 - 17. Mai 2026 • Banff, Alberta, Kanada
Veranstalter:
Banff International Research Station for Mathematical Innovation and Discovery (BIRS)
Zusammenfassung:
Baryonic matter in the Universe is almost exclusively (99,9 \%) in the plasma state, which is one of the four common states (with solid, liquid and gas), having the specificity of being strongly affected by electrical and magnetic fields. Already three generations of plasma physicists have worked at understanding more precisely the dynamics of plasmas, unravelling their secrets and bringing order to what seems by nature chaotic. Still, the plasmas continue to preserve a part of their mystery. First, our project aims to gain more insight into the microscopic reactions induced by the presence of radiation. Secondly, it is to mathematically elucidate how inertial effects coming from the mixing of charged species (like electrons and ions) is able to stabilize the plasma dynamics at very small scales. Incidently, this would bring innovative insight about some specificities of (magnetohydrodynamics).

Arithmetic, L-functions, and Pseudorandomness
06. Sep 2026 - 11. Sep 2026 • Banff, Alberta, Kanada
Veranstalter:
Banff International Research Station for Mathematical Innovation and Discovery (BIRS)
Zusammenfassung:
The proposed workshop focuses on recent breakthroughs in arithmetic functions, L-functions, and pseudorandomness in Number Theory, as well as new connections to other areas (via both employed methods and applications), such as additive combinatorics, arithmetic statistics, and dynamical systems. Such breakthroughs include the latest advances in the study of various character and exponential sums (e.g., Kloosterman sums), which are powerful and versatile tools for understanding the anatomy of integers; moments, and other averages of L -functions (over number fields and function fields); integers having a prescribed arithmetic structure (e.g., prime, smooth, square-free, sum of two squares), along with their distribution in arithmetic progressions and short intervals, as well as function field analogs of these problems; distribution of elements of multiplicative subgroups; pseudorandomness of arithmetical functions. An essential aspect of these developments is the vast arsenal of tools and techniques that have been conceived, developed, and implemented, ranging from analysis to additive combinatorics, algebraic geometry, and random matrix theory. The proposed workshop will concentrate on the emerging methods that underlie such advances and on possible future directions.
