Zusammenfassung:
Only in very rare cases, and on very specific domains, is it possible to give closed form solutions for PDE equations, and a large part of research in numerical analysis is devoted therefore to computing approximate solutions. This requires several steps: firstly, one needs to discretize the PDEs. A first focus of our proposal is to look at a very sophisticated, new type of discretization of finite volume type: the discrete duality finite volume (DDFV) method. We will also focus on domain decomposition methods where there exist many open research questions on which the community is currently focusing: (coarse spaces, heterogeneous domain decomposition methods, domain decomposition for optimal control problems, PinT methods, etc.) Our program will feature the international PinT Conference, a research school for PhD students, workshops and research in pairs and a doctoral course. Invitations are open to tentative participants at all levels of their career.

The summer school "Horizons in non-linear PDEs" brings together young researchers and established leaders in their respective field. As in the successful first edition in 2019, the school will blend minicourses by the main speakers with contributed talks and posters by junior participants. The school covers a variety of topics in the contemporary theory of nonlinear PDEs, including variational, geometric, and stochastic approaches and applications. The school is composed of three main components: minicourses (3 times 60 minutes) of the invited main speakers, short communications (20 minutes each) of young researchers and a poster session. The minicourses, given by internationally leading experts, are aimed at Master's and PhD students and postdocs, and provide an introduction to a research field of current interest.

The workshop "Compensated Compactness and Applications to Materials" will bring together experts from the theory of compensated compactness with researchers in material science. Classical compensated compactness is a theory that allows to study the limit of solutions of some partial differential equations with strongly oscillating coefficients. A particular focus is on the very recent developments in the compensated compactness theory involving concentration effects and formation of singularities. These developments have enabled many new results, for instance in the theories of microstructure, shape optimization, dislocation theory, fracture, and plasticity, and they also hold much promise for future applications. To facilitate further breakthroughs, this workshop aims to balance theoretical and more applied talks to give the participants the opportunity to exchange the latest ideas, learn new methods, and start new collaborations.

The aim of this workshop is to bring together experts from different communities to cover the investigation of diffusive systems from several viewpoints: analytically, combining methods and techniques from Partial Differential Equations (PDEs) and dynamical systems to derive and analyse mathematical models for the applied phenomena; numerically, reviewing the most recent techniques and software for the computation of bifurcation diagrams and continuation with respect to the systems’ parameters; and, last but not least, from the applied — in particular biological — viewpoint: a constant exchange of knowledge between the theoretical investigations and the experimental data is in fact crucial in order to advance the research in this area. Our speakers will illustrate the most recent advancements in these fields, and foster the creation of new research directions with a concluding description of three open research questions aimed at colleagues working in fields different from their own. This will allow researchers with different backgrounds to learn ultimate techniques, connect with experts from various areas, and collaborate with fellow participants to produce new, cutting-edge research.

Many physical, chemical, biomedical, and techni- cal processes can be described by means of partial differential equations or dynamical systems. In recent years, multi-physics and multi-scale prob- lems have become a particular focus of applied mathematical research. A numerical treatment of such problems is usually very time consuming and thus requires the development of efficient discret- ization schemes that are often realized on large parallel computing environments. In addition, these problems often need to be solved repeatedly for many varying parameters, introducing a curse of dimensionality when the solution is also viewed as a function of these parameters. Examples for such situations include design, control, optimiza- tion, inverse problems, uncertainty analysis and statistical sampling.

The seminar takes place at the Mathematical Re- search and Conference Center of the Institute of Mathematics of the Polish Academy of Sciences in Będlewo.

Optimal transport theory is a very successful field of mathematics connecting calculus of variations, probability theory, differential geometry, partial differential equations, functional analysis, statis- tics and computer sciences. Going back to Monge around 1780, this theory has deep connections with the earlier work of Euler on Hydrodynamics around 1750. This connection has recently known a strong revival on many different sides, leading to various non trivial generalizations of the con- cept of optimal transport.

The seminar takes place at the Mathematical Re- search and Conference Center of the Institute of Mathematics of the Polish Academy of Sciences in Będlewo.

Many important questions in convex geometry are related to the study of sections and projections of convex bodies. For example, can convex bodies be uniquely determined by the size of their sections or projections? What are the largest and smallest sections of the cube? Do convex bodies with smaller sections have smaller volume? A common feature of all these problems is that they are solved with the help of harmonic analysis. The aim of the proposed workshop is to bring together leading experts and young researchers to discuss recent progress in applications of harmonic analysis to convex geometry.
