Dagstuhl-Seminar — What You Hear is What You See? Integrating Sonification and Visualization
09. Feb 2025 - 14. Feb 2025 • Schloss Dagstuhl – Wadern, Deutschland
Veranstalter:
Schloss Dagstuhl - Leibniz-Zentrum für Informatik GmbH
Zusammenfassung:
In our daily lives, we as humans perceive our surroundings in an inherently multimodal way. Nevertheless, the vast majority of data analysis idioms are exclusively visual, not using the apparent potential of combined designs. While the visualization field studies visual data analysis solutions, the sonification field investigates comparable solutions that convey data over non-speech audio. There are several similarities between the methods and design theories of both approaches, such as the use of perceptual variables to encode data attributes, the use of marks and substrates for conveying items, and the role of interaction in manipulating the data representations. Over the recent decades, both fields have established research communities, theoretical frameworks, and toolkit support.

Dagstuhl-Seminar — Visualizing Data on Non-Flat, Non-Rectangular Displays
16. Feb 2025 - 21. Feb 2025 • Schloss Dagstuhl – Wadern, Deutschland
Veranstalter:
Schloss Dagstuhl - Leibniz-Zentrum für Informatik GmbH
Zusammenfassung:
"The world is flat and rectangular", at least when it comes to the types of physical screens that we use for representing data and making decisions. The physical screens that we consider when creating visualizations for representing data, making decisions with this data, and learning about our environment, are predominantly flat and rectangular: our mobile phones and tablets, desktops, or even large wall or table displays. Nevertheless, technology is already evolving quickly: curved, bendable, and highly flexible displays, spherical displays, cubed displays, and even drone-based displays have emerged and are commercially available. These novel types of displays offer new ways to represent and explore data embedded in everyday environments, to communicate and share it.

Dagstuhl-Seminar — Computational Geometry
11. Mai 2025 - 16. Mai 2025 • Schloss Dagstuhl – Wadern, Deutschland
Veranstalter:
Schloss Dagstuhl - Leibniz-Zentrum für Informatik GmbH
Zusammenfassung:
Computational geometry is concerned with the design, analysis, and implementation of algorithms for geometric and topological problems, which arise naturally in a wide range of areas, including computer graphics, CAD, robotics, computer vision, image processing, spatial databases, GIS, molecular biology, sensor networks, machine learning, data mining, scientific computing, theoretical computer science, and pure mathematics. Computational geometry is a vibrant and mature field of research, with several dedicated international conferences and journals and strong intellectual connections with other computing and mathematics disciplines. The emphasis of the Dagstuhl Seminar is on presenting recent developments in computational geometry, as well as identifying new challenges, opportunities, and connections to other fields of computing.
