EES25-07 — EMBO | EMBL Symposium Cell biology of the nucleus
18. Nov 2025 - 21. Nov 2025 • Heidelberg, Deutschland
Veranstalter:
EMBL Heidelberg
Zusammenfassung:
The nucleus lies at the literal and figurative heart of the cell – as the one organelle that all eukaryotes share, it is over 2 billion years old and integrated with every aspect of cellular function, from mechanosensing and genome regulation to membrane trafficking and cell division. Although the role of the nucleus in organising, housing and protecting the genome frequently takes centre stage, much remains to be discovered about the cellular physiology of this unique organelle studied in its own right rather than just as a passive scaffold for chromatin. This meeting will bring together a group of scientists spanning the fields of biochemistry, membrane trafficking, cytoskeletal dynamics, cell division control and cellular biophysics to address the cellular roles of the nuclear compartment from a diversity of angles.

Overactivation of Oncogenic Signalling as a Potential Cancer Treatment Strategy
20. Jan 2026 - 21. Jan 2026 • Online, Virtuelle Veranstaltung
Veranstalter:
The European Association for Cancer Research (EACR)
Zusammenfassung:
This conference will explore a seemingly paradoxical approach to cancer therapy: the deliberate hyper-activation of cancer-relevant signalling pathways. Accumulating evidence suggests that this leads to cell death caused by a further activation of cellular stress responses. Such an approach could revolutionise treatment strategies, which often cannot abate the return of resistance in advanced cancers caused by secondary mutations reactivating previously inhibited pathways. Join us on 20 and 21 January 2026 to learn the latest science in this field from our panel of globally renowned experts. They will teach you about ways to hyperactivate oncogenic signalling and how the vulnerabilities associated with this state can be identified. In doing so, you’ll gain a fundamentally different perspective on ways to treat cancer. If you work in this field, send us an abstract before 17 November 2025 for a chance to have your work featured as a Proffered Paper or in a Flash Talk presentation! Registration closes on 15 December 2025.

Workshop — Thermodynamics and Kinetics of Chemical Reaction Networks: from Cell Metabolism to Design Principles for Synthetic Life
07. Sep 2026 - 18. Sep 2026 • München, Deutschland
Veranstalter:
MIAPbP - Munich Institute for Astro-, Particle and BioPhysics
Zusammenfassung:
Living systems operate far from equilibrium, relying on a complex network of biochemical processes fueled by energy from their environment. However, this energy is often limited, and biochemical systems must use it efficiently to maintain robust functioning. Despite the critical role of chemical and metabolic networks in evolution, growth, and signaling, how energy constraints shape their behaviors or the full range of their emergent properties remain elusive. Addressing these open questions is essential for uncovering the fundamental principles that drive the complexity of life, and the link between energetic and cellular functions. By drawing on concepts from physics, we can better understand how living organisms optimize their limited energy resources and potentially apply these insights to the design of new materials with life-like properties. The aim of this workshop is to bridge different fields—stochastic thermodynamics, metabolic networks, and synthetic life—creating a connection among theoretical, computational, and experimental scientists to tackle these challenges.
