EDUNINE2023 — 2023 IEEE VII World Engineering Education Conference
12 mar 2023 - 15 mar 2023 • Bogota, Colombie
Organisateur:
IEEE Education Society and COPEC
Résumé:
EDUNINE2023: EXTENDED SUBMISSION DEADLINE: SEPTEMBER 19, 2023. 2023 IEEE World Engineering Education Conference invites authors to submit original research in English in the form of full papers (up to six pages) and work-in-progress papers (up to four pages) that address the main conference theme and the conference prevalent topics. In addition, EDUNINE 2023 welcomes proposals for workshops to promote lifelong learning for educators. Workshops are single and short (from 90 minutes to a full day) educational programs designed to provide participants with practical skills, techniques, or ideas that they can use in their work. EDUNINE 2023, as a conference in the field of engineering and technology education, has enriched the scientific community with its quality and opportunity to promote communication between academics and researchers. With participants from all over the world, university academics and young researchers had the opportunity to network and exchange useful knowledge. This is another important contribution to the development and dissemination of scientific achievements for human development, to building bridges between communities, and helping educators and policymakers find creative and innovative solutions for teaching and learning in the current crisis and in the longer-term future. EDUNINE 2023 will be held as a hybrid conference with combined online and on-site presentations. This conference will be a seamless integration of technology to facilitate participation between a live and virtual audience. Authors can choose to present their papers in English, Portuguese or Spanish on-site at the conference venues (Universidad Central and Universidad del Rosario in Bogota) or online only through the online platform. Both forms of presentation are of equal value. Accepted and presented papers will be submitted for inclusion in the IEEE Xplore® digital library. IEEE has agreements with other publishers and services such as Google, Elsevier (Scopus, ScienceDirect, and Compendex), Web of Science, Ei Engineering Village, and Scitopia.org. For more information and the full list of topics, please visit the conference website: https://edunine.eu/edunine2023 (in English, Portuguese, or Spanish). Public Lecture — Physics Olympiads and How to Train a "Genius"
16 mar 2023 • University of Wolverhampton, Royaume-Uni
Organisateur:
Institute of Physics (IOP)
Résumé:
The International Physics Olympiad (IPhO) branched from its somewhat more famous and acknowledged mathematical ancestor. Just like the latter, the physics olympiads helped to recognise and develop countless talents and brought many geniuses into the world of physics research. Dr Cherotchenko will give a tour of the movement's history and will share her experience in training young physics prodigies as well as her thoughts on how independent original research is different from solving extremely hard olympiad problems in physics. A talk not to be missed for amateurs of solving difficult problems, in real or life, as well as for anybody interested in competition at the highest level.

Teachers' Conference — What’s in a crystal? – A quantum universe
01 avr 2023 • Santa Barbara, États-Unis
Organisateur:
UC Santa Barbara, Kavli Institute for Theoretical Physics (KITP)
Résumé:
Carl Sagan is famous for saying that there are more stars in our Universe than there are grains of sand covering the world’s beaches. What Sagan didn’t say is that a single grain of sand has more electrons than stars in the Universe. What do these many electrons do in a crystal? They form a quantum universe. In this conference, we will explore the confluence of recent exciting developments on this many-electron world in crystals.

This Teachers’ Conference, to be held in coordination with a week-long KITP conference entitled “Topology, Symmetry and Interactions in Crystals: Emerging Concepts and Unifying Themes,” will catalyze conversations on this prototype topic of quantum physics and how to bring it to the classrooms.

Public Lecture — Dangerous Experiments in Physics
20 avr 2023 • University of Wolverhampton, Royaume-Uni
Organisateur:
Institute of Physics (IOP)
Résumé:
As in every other enterprise of exploration, Science can be quite a risky business. Some of the most dangerous experiments ever performed — like the Trinity test, with controlled fusion, with the Large Hadron Collider close to creating black holes, at the Extreme Light Infrastructure on the verge of tearing out space time — are within the realm of Physics (experiments in biology and/or with people can also be notoriously nasty). Dr Khechara and his team, who regularly go where nobody went before, will give an overview of some of the most dangerously mad experiments ever performed and will actually proceed to bring some of them on stage, putting themselves at risk against the elements of nature, in a fight against electricity, radioactivity, gravity, chemistry, light and matter - all in under one hour.

BIRS Workshop — Putting Together Resources to Support Current and Future Elementary School Teachers
23 jul 2023 - 28 jul 2023 • Banff, Alberta, Canada
Organisateur:
Banff International Research Station (BIRS) for Mathematical Innovation and Discovery
Résumé:
The Pacific Institute for the Mathematical Sciences, the Centre de recherches mathématiques, The Fields Institute and the Atlantic Association for Research in the Mathematical Sciences are joining forces to develop a series of educational modules with the intent of inspiring pre-service and in-service elementary school teachers to further develop their mathematical thinking. The goal is to support their future and current practice with activities, and the development and connection of ideas that will help them tackle the ever-changing provincial curricula. We want to tease out the mathematician in them. An inspiring teacher is the most valuable school asset. We remember those teachers who motivated and “fired us up”, for they played a vital role in shaping who we are today. Our plan is to bring together a group of mathematicians, math educators, teachers and people with Indigenous knowledge together to develop methodologies to inspire teachers to strive for and expect success for students from diverse backgrounds.
