The analysis and optimization of warehouse performance
28 Nov 2023 - 30 Nov 2023 • Eindhoven, Netherlands
Organizer:
Eurandom
Abstract:
Warehouses are essential to the performance of today’s supply-chains. The analysis and optimization of warehouse performance is important to reduce the experienced delay of customers, especially considering the growth in demand fueled by e-commerce. During this three-day workshop various leading experts and young researchers will present their research on the evaluation and optimization of warehouses, using methods, e.g., from combinatorial optimization, queueing theory and machine learning. We plan to discuss both mathematical modeling and analysis, as well as the practical aspect of warehousing design.

Perspectives on Scientific Error | 6th edition
29 Feb 2024 - 01 Mar 2024 • TU/e Eindhoven, Netherlands
Abstract:
In the last decade, several studies have raised concerns about a high prevalence of errors in published research. Theoretical arguments have suggested the possibility that the number of false claims in the scientific literature is much higher than desired and reports across fields have subsequently shown that many findings that researchers believed were firmly established failed to replicate. These erroneous claims in the scientific literature raise important issues. From an empirical practitioner’s perspective, errors mislead and slow down research projects. From a philosophical perspective, scientific error raises questions about the right forms of scientific inference, scientific progress, and the reliability of science as a source of knowledge. From the perspective of the general public, scientific error undermines the epistemic authority of science and the degree to which policy-makers trust scientific experts.

YEP | Interplay between local and global graph structures
11 Mar 2024 - 15 Mar 2024 • TU/e Eindhoven, Netherlands
Abstract:
The YEP Workshop is a yearly event organized by EURANDOM at Eindhoven University of Technology and this is the 19th workshop in this successful series. It is geared towards learning, development and networking opportunities for young researchers. The topic of the 2024 workshop is “Interplay between local and global graph structures”. An exciting area of research that covers a wide range of sub-topics within probability theory, random graph theory, and combinatorics, among others. A lot of cutting-edge research is currently undertaken in this area, so that perfectly lends itself as the subject of the 2024 workshop.
