Abstract:
This workshop is devoted to numerical analysis of stochastic ordinary and partial differential equations (SDEs for both) - a topic in which research is currently highly active. The aim of the proposed workshop is to bring together leading experts in numerical analysis of SDEs to discuss recent results and open problems and to identify future research directions.

Approximation and geometry in high dimensions

Abstract:
Many applications in engineering, science, and statistics require inter- or extrapolation from data and involve systems that contain a huge amount of parameters. Generic examples are computer-based simulations, data mining, or forecasting. Indispensable foundation in every such situation is a mathematical or statistical model. It allows to represent the underlying real-world phenomenon - or at least some simplification thereof - in a way suitable for computation and mathematical analysis. The model formulation very often involves multivariate functions f(x1, ...,xd) where the dimension d may be very large. The problem of inter- and extrapolation then is to find a function which fits the given data in a suitable sense. Problems of this kind are so ubiquitous that several mathematical disciplines are devoted to them. Each uses its own language: In approximation theory and numerical analysis, the terms function identification, function recovery, and function reconstruction are common. Statisticians speak of regression, function estimation or function fitting. To learn a function is also a widely used phrase in machine learning and statistical learning theory.

Dynamical Systems in Natural Sciences

Abstract:
The meeting is planned as a follow up of the BIOMATH 2019 and DSALSS 2022 conferences held in BC in Będlewo, and will include both a workshop and a school for young scientists. It is envisaged to address methods of dynamical systems in modeling and analysis of various phenomena in Biology, Medicine and Social Sciences. A particular emphasis will be placed on non-local effects both in time and space, singular perturbation methods, stochastic differential equations, generalized kinetic equations and reaction-diffusion equations. The discussed applications will cover, among others, infectious disease initiation, progress and optimal control, tumor – immune system interactions, autoimmune diseases, as well as network dynamics, traffic problems and opinion formation. The aim of the meeting is to continue, through the presentations and scientific interactions, the collaborations between researchers building on the success of BIOMATH 2019 and DSALSS 2022. A particular emphasis will be placed on interactions between junior researchers as well as between junior researchers and the established leaders in the field.

Thermodynamic Formalism: Non-additive Aspects and Related Topics

Abstract:
Thermodynamic formalism provides a mathematical framework for studying qualitative and quantitative aspects of dynamical systems. Founders of this theory include Sinai, Bowen, and Ruelle, but principle ideas have their origin in the development by Gibbs to describe interacting particle physical systems in the realm of statistical mechanics. Key concepts include Bernoulli and Gibbs distributions, equilibrium states, variational and, in particular, maximum entropy principles. Its contemporary mathematical aspects are intimately related with ergodic theory and have applications in fractal geometry, the description of large deviations, multifractal analysis, analysis of axiom A-systems, rigidity problems, ergodic optimization and control problems, among many others. There are also relations to geometry and group theory.

Abstract:
Many physical, chemical, biomedical, and techni- cal processes can be described by means of partial differential equations or dynamical systems. In recent years, multi-physics and multi-scale prob- lems have become a particular focus of applied mathematical research. A numerical treatment of such problems is usually very time consuming and thus requires the development of efficient discret- ization schemes that are often realized on large parallel computing environments. In addition, these problems often need to be solved repeatedly for many varying parameters, introducing a curse of dimensionality when the solution is also viewed as a function of these parameters. Examples for such situations include design, control, optimiza- tion, inverse problems, uncertainty analysis and statistical sampling.

The seminar takes place at the Mathematical Re- search and Conference Center of the Institute of Mathematics of the Polish Academy of Sciences in Będlewo.

Abstract:
Optimal transport theory is a very successful field of mathematics connecting calculus of variations, probability theory, differential geometry, partial differential equations, functional analysis, statis- tics and computer sciences. Going back to Monge around 1780, this theory has deep connections with the earlier work of Euler on Hydrodynamics around 1750. This connection has recently known a strong revival on many different sides, leading to various non trivial generalizations of the con- cept of optimal transport.

The seminar takes place at the Mathematical Re- search and Conference Center of the Institute of Mathematics of the Polish Academy of Sciences in Będlewo.
