Advances in 3OM — 1st International Conference: Advances in 3OM: Opto-Mechatronics, Opto-Mechanics and Optical Metrology
13 dec 2021 - 16 dec 2021 • Timisoara, Roumanie
Résumé:
The 3OM concept unites three complementary domains: (1) Opto-Mechatronics is a blend of Optics & Photonics, Precision Mechanics, Electronics, Control & Automation, as well as IT. (2) Opto-Mechanics usually fills the gap between the high requirements of Optical Design and the capabilities of Mechanical technologies, addressing tolerances, errors, positioning issues, and methods to tackle them. Kinematic and dynamic aspects of optical systems with moving parts are also approached, and this leads back to Control & Automation, but also to material issues, involving for example Finite Element Analysis (FEA). (3) Optical Metrology is a large umbrella of applications which benefits from both domains above, and includes fields as diverse as industrial measurements (e.g., Non-Destructive Testing (NDT)), biomedical imaging (with a range of techniques, for example Optical Coherence Tomography (OCT) or Photoacoustics), Remote Sensing, as well as Security & Defense. Other fields that apply 3OM are also within the topics of the Conference, including Laser Manufacturing and Robotics, as well as Lasers in Medicine.

PHOTOPTICS 2022 — 10th International Conference on Photonics, Optics and Laser Technology
10 fév 2022 - 11 fév 2022 • Vienne, Autriche
Organisateur:
INSTICC, the Institute for Systems and Technologies of Information, Control and Communication
Résumé:
Optics has a long and distinct tradition among physical sciences. Ever-present throughout human history, optical systems and phenomena have been subject of interest in all cultures and epochs, from the ancient times of geometrical optics, across the works of Alhazen, Kepler, Descartes, Newton, Huygens, Young, Fresnel, Poisson and many others, to the electromagnetic theory synthesis of Maxwell, culminating in the quantum mechanics revolution of the first half of the 20 th  century which has come to pave the way for modern laser and photonics technologies. Optical systems are ubiquitous in modern society, with an ever-increasing number of applications covering medical sciences (vision technologies, surgical instrumentation, medical imaging), spatial exploration (telescopes, lenses, spectrometers), telecommunications (fiber optics), information processing (quantum computing), industry (from cutting, welding to precision metrology) and military/weaponry technology, to name but a few examples. Furthermore, laser and optical technology are in general absolutely essential to performing applied research in areas such as chemistry and biology, providing fundamental analysis tools. The success of optical systems and technologies in high-end scientific research has also found its way into everyday consumer products such as printers, displays, discs, cameras and eyeglasses, not to forget that optical fiber is crucial to telecommunications in general and internet in particular. This 10 th  edition of PHOTOPTICS will feature three different tracks on Optics, Photonics and Lasers, covering both theoretical and practical aspects. Researchers, engineers and practitioners interested in any of these fields are welcome to join us in Vienna, Austria and present their work on new methods or technologies, advanced prototypes, systems, tools and techniques, as well as general survey papers indicating future directions. Accepted papers, presented at the conference by one of the authors, will be published on the Proceedings of PHOTOPTICS, with an ISBN. Acceptance will be based on quality, relevance and originality. Both full research and work-in-progress reports are welcome. There will be both oral and poster sessions. Companies interested in presenting their products or methodologies or even researchers interested in holding a tutorial, workshop or special session are invited to contact the conference secretariat or visit the conference website.

Quantum and Thermal Electrodynamic Fluctuations in the Presence of Matter: Progress and Challenges
11 jul 2022 - 14 jul 2022 • Santa Barbara, États-Unis
Organisateur:
UC Santa Barbara, Kavli Institute for Theoretical Physics (KITP)
Résumé:
This conference will explore many aspects of classical and quantum fluctuating electromagnetic fields in the presence of matter, which impact a wide range of fundamental and practical phenomena in domains of physics, chemistry end engineering. Building upon the significant milestones achieved in the realms of the Casimir interactions between bodies, and the role of quantum field fluctuations in heat transfer in the near- and far-fields, we plan to address a plethora of novel questions and remaining puzzles: the ramifications of 2D (topological) and non-reciprocal materials, the possibility of detecting quantum friction, the discord between different experimental and theoretical results. Unraveling these puzzles will have profound impacts from fundamental science to novel applications of materials. The conference will bring together theorists and experimentalists who will address unsettled topics and possible new experimental directions that could elucidate them.

25th Congress of the International Commission for Optics (ICO) and 16th Conference of International Society on Optics Within Life Sciences (OWLS).
05 sep 2022 - 09 sep 2022 • Dresden, Allemagne
Résumé:
The main theme of ICO-25/OWLS-16 is ‘Progress of Society with Light’. Evidence of the scientific contribution is obvious from the fact that many Nobel laureates have accomplished their achievements in the field of optics and photonics, resulting in more than 40 Nobel prizes.

Optics and photonics will contribute greatly to solving issues on global energy and the environment. The United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization of the UNO provides with the International Day of Light on May 16 an annual focal point for the continued appreciation of light and the role it plays in science, culture and art, education, and sustainable development, and in fields as diverse as medicine, communications, and energy. The use of LEDs for the lighting in our cities will save energy. In everyday life we frequently benefit from advanced light technology, as backbone of internet, in smart phones and for human health care. Light has the potential to recognize the origins of diseases, to prevent them, or to cure them early and gently. This is one of the central topics of OWLS, which was founded at the ICO-15 Congress in Garmisch-Partenkirchen in 1990. Therefore, a special commemorative event of the 30 years anniversary of the foundation of OWLS in Germany will be organized.
