Technology Training — Environmental Solutions: Meeting EPA Air Emission Requirements
25 Oct 2022 - 27 Oct 2022 • Orlando, FL, United States
Organizer:
Association for Iron & Steel Technology (AIST) - AIST Environmental Technology Committee
Abstract:
This two-day program provides a detailed review of one of the most important raw materials used in the steel industry – water. Water is an essential element for every steel manufacturing process and utility operation. This program will review water chemistry fundamentals and application demands with a focus on cooling water. Cooling tower system design, operation and maintenance will be featured, as well as microbiological fouling and control methods in cooling water loops. In addition, cooling tower and National Pollutant Discharge Elimination Systems permitting flexibility will be discussed. The seminar will also focus on physical treatment methods such as reverse osmosis, oil removal, and a recent innovation on macrofouling and zebra mussel treatment. A specific focus on water conservation and reuse (with case studies) will be presented along with a fresh look at the feasibility of zero liquid discharge treatment concepts. Sessions will include a combination of technical presentations with case studies to provide real examples.

Technology Training — Scrap Supplements & Alternative Ironmaking 9
06 Mar 2023 - 08 Mar 2023 • Orlando, FL, United States
Organizer:
Association for Iron & Steel Technology (AIST) - AIST Direct Reduced Iron Technology Committee
Abstract:
This is the eighth in a series of symposia covering scrap substitutes and alternative ironmaking, which originated with a highly successful meeting in Myrtle Beach, S.C., USA, in 1993. This meeting was initiated by the Advanced Technology Committee, which belonged to the Process Technology Division of the Iron & Steel Society (an AIST predecessor). This symposium, which is international in scope and participation, is associated with a high level of activity in research, process and project development, plant construction, and start-up of direct reduction and alternative ironmaking processes. This symposium will focus on the following areas: successful projects/processes, the challenges of struggling processes and those still under development including new approaches, and use of products.

Technology Training — New Developments in AHSS
20 Jun 2023 - 23 Jun 2023 • Vail, CO, United States
Organizer:
Association for Iron & Steel Technology (AIST) - AIST Metallurgy — Processing, Products & Applications Technology Committee
Abstract:
Advanced high-strength sheet steels (AHSS) are of increasing importance, particularly to the automotive industry, where their application enables reduced fuel consumption while guaranteeing passive safety. The scope of the conference is to bring together the international community to highlight state-of-the-art research and development pertaining to AHSS. The conference will focus on the latest developments in dual phase, twinning induced plasticity, martensitic, quenched and partitioned, medium manganese steels, other third-generation AHSS concepts and hot stamped steels along with recent experiences with industrial implementation and end-user application performance. A broad distribution of presentation topics is scheduled from international and domestic speakers from industry as well as academia. The conference is the latest installment in a series of product specific conferences following the AHSS symposia in Winter Park, Colo., in 2004, Orlando, Fla., in 2008 and Vail, Colo., in 2013.
