As in previous editions of the ICPM conference, the ICPM will bring together professionals from the fields of plasma, medicine, biology and biochemistry in order to develop a common language, to better define key challenges and open questions and to move toward effective solutions.

Associated with the ICPM9 is the first annual meeting of the COST Action “PlasTHER: Therapeutical Applications of Cold Plasmas”. COST (i.e. European Cooperation in Science and Technology) is a funding organisation for research and innovation networks. PlasTHER COST Action aims at developing links between plasma medicine research and the medical community and patients.

Abstract:
The Mayneord-Phillips Educational Programme (MPEP), run by the Institute of Physics, the British Institute of Radiology, and the Institute of Physics and Engineering in Medicine is a forum for early-career professionals to explore new developments in medical physics, enhance subject-knowledge and form long-term networks. The programme hosts approximately 30 early-career professionals and has been successfully running since 2012. The aim is to host the event every two years. The topic of the 2022 school will be Advances in Solid State Detectors for Early Diagnosis which given the current COVID pandemic, has emphasised how vital it is for scientists to explore and develop new solutions. The School will provide an opportunity for NHS Clinical Scientists, post-graduate students, post-doctoral researchers, and engineers and innovators working on product solutions in industry to develop their interest and expertise in an exciting, nascent topic.

A large amount of time will be dedicated to discussion and interaction among participants. The International School of Nanomedicine is established at the internationally renowned «Ettore Majorana» Foundation and Centre for Scientific Culture (EMFCSC) in Erice (Sicily) Italy (http://www.ccsem.infn.it/). Focuses on innovative research, tools and techniques to increase fundamental knowledge about the brain and nervous system. The USA BRAIN Initiative and the European Human Brain Project have identified the urgent need for new technologies that can probe the working brain across all levels from single neurons to entire behaving organisms. Optics offers a unique toolkit for multiscale imaging the living and intact brain, while new genetic labeling strategies provide optical contrast to neural function and optogenetics permits the control of cellular function with light. By bringing together an international group of leading engineers, optical and medical scientists, biologists, chemists and physicians, the meeting reflects the highly interdisciplinary area of research within this topic.
