INDL-6 — 6th conference of the International Network on Digital Labor, “Digital Labor in the Wake of Pandemic Times”
09. Okt 2023 - 11. Okt 2023 • Berlin, Deutschland
Veranstalter:
Weizenbaum Institute for the Networked Society - The conference is co-organized by the International Labor Organization (ILO), Digital Platform Labor (DiPLab), and Wissenschaftszentrum Berlin für Sozialforschung (WZB).
Zusammenfassung:
The last few years have been marked by a global economic crisis, strains on both institutions and labor markets, and unprecedented disruptions in the mobility of goods and people. Covid-19 has profoundly affected the way we work, causing an increase in people turning to digital labor platforms to deal with the uncertainties of an unstable economy. Even in the formal sector, remote work and automation have led to dramatic changes in the workplace. In navigating this new reality, it is crucial to examine how these changes are impacting workers, businesses, and society as a whole.

By bringing together researchers, workers, policymakers, and practitioners, the INDL-6 conference “Digital Labor in the wake of Pandemic Times” addresses the latest developments and challenges in the fields of technology-mediated labor, platformization, and automation.

The deadline for sumbissions has been extended until the 12th of April.

FRIBIS Annual Conference / Jahrestagung 2023: Care & Gender – Potentials & Risks of UBI
09. Okt 2023 - 11. Okt 2023 • Freiburg i. Br., Deutschland
Veranstalter:
Universtität Freiburg, Freiburg Institute for Basic Income Studies (FRIBIS)
Zusammenfassung:
This year’s FRIBIS Annual Conference (EN/DE) will take place in Freiburg from 9 to 11 October and will focus on the topic "Care and Gender – Potentials & Risks of UBI". Over the past few decades care work and the social dimension of gender have increasingly become central issues in both academic and public debates. The close connection between them is evident from the high number of women involved in care activities. This year’s FRIBIS Annual Conference will examine both topics independently of each other but it also aims to explore their overlaps in content. The common reference point will be the Universal Basic Income, whose potentials and risks for the care field and gender-related issues will be explored. Applications for active participation in the conference are now open for submission. The deadline is 30 June, 2023. As a university institute that strives to bring together both civil society actors and academics, FRIBIS is looking forward to receiving applications from academics in the field as well as from participants from civil society. More detailed information on the conference contents and registration procedures can be found here. Participation as a member of the public is also possible (registration opens on 5 July 2023).

Twentieth International Conference on Technology, Knowledge, and Society
07. Mär 2024 - 08. Mär 2024 • Valencia, Spanien
Veranstalter:
Common Ground Research Networks
Zusammenfassung:
Founded in 2005, the Technology, Knowledge & Society Research Network is brought together by a shared interest in the complex and subtle relationships between technology, knowledge, and society. The perspectives of our members range from big picture analyses that address global and universal concerns to detailed case studies that speak of localized applications of technology. We aim to traverse a broad terrain, sometimes technically and other times socially oriented, sometimes theoretical and other times practical in their perspective, and sometimes reflecting dispassionate analysis while at other times suggesting interested strategies for action. Our aim is to build an epistemic community where we can make linkages across disciplinary, geographic, and cultural boundaries.
