Organizer:
Centro di Ricerca Matematica Ennio De Giorgi
Abstract:
The conference is the third meeting within prof. Le Donne's ERC project GeoMeG (Geometry of Metric Groups). The idea for the 2020 meeting is to focus on the following subjects: 1) large-scale geometry of nilpotent groups (and as the sub-Riemannian geometry appear as asymptotic cone) 2) Heintze groups (= homogeneous negatively curved manifolds) and their boundaries (which are nilpotent groups, possibly equipped with non-smooth distances) 3) geometry of solvable groups or, more generally, the large scale geometry of Lie groups. Tentative list of speakers: Manuel Amann, Marc Burger, Matias Carrasco Piaggio, Yves Cornulier, Moon Duchin, Tullia Dymarz, David Fisher, Misha Gromov, David Kyed, Grigoriy Margulis, Nicolas Monod, Pierre Pansu, Frederic Paulin, Roman Sauer, Yehuda Shalom, Xiangdong Xie, Robert Young.

Spherical surfaces and related topics
15 Jun 2020 - 19 Jun 2020 • Cortona, Italy
Organizer:
INdAM meeting
Abstract:
The workshop will be devoted to the study of surfaces with special metrics with singularities of conical type. In particular it will focus on the case of spherical metrics, namely Riemannian metrics of curvature 1. Such metrics have been studied from many points of view, using tools coming from synthetic geometry, complex analysis and partial differential equations. The aim of the meeting is to bring together people with different backgrounds to discuss recent developments, techniques and open questions in the areas of spherical surfaces with conical points, projective structures with singularities and their monodromy, solutions of the singular Liouville equation, polyhedral spherical surfaces, polygonal linkages.

New Perspectives on Hyperkähler Manifolds
15 Jun 2020 - 19 Jun 2020 • Trento, Italy
Abstract:
This workshop aims at providing an updated survey of the state of the art and future research directions in the area of compact hyperkähler manifolds in its various aspects. In particular, the following are some of the topics that will be addressed during the conference: the study of automorphisms and monodromy groups of compact hyperkähler manifolds and applications, the construction of families of compact hyperkähler manifolds, and the study of Lagrangian fibrations on compact hyperkähler (singular) varieties. The workshop will be an opportunity to celebrate Dimitri Markushevich's 60th birthday and to recognize his many contributions to algebraic geometry.

Workshop — Topological properties of gauge theories and their applications to high-energy and condensed-matter physics
24 Aug 2020 - 16 Oct 2020 • Firenze , Italy
Organizer:
The Galileo Galilei Institute for Theoretical Physics
Abstract:
Many remarkable properties of gauge theories rely on the topology of field configurations and/or ambient spacetime and are connected with quantum anomalies and nonperturbative excitations. These properties, often exact, have many implications in the physics of fundamental interactions, condensed matter systems and statistical mechanics models. They also account for a large part of the investigations in string theory, and combined with supersymmetry have led to exact solutions of low-energy theories and the discovery of duality relations between supersymmetric gauge theories. Meanwhile, a renewed interest in topological aspects has emerged from condensed matter physics, through the study of topological phases of quantum matter. The effective field theories for these systems are not of the usual Landau-Ginzburg-Higgs type, rather, they are described by topological gauge theories. The goal of this GGI activity is to bring together theoreticians of different backgrounds, in condensed matter, high energy and mathematical physics, with the belief that interdisciplinary approaches can lead to substantial progress in many directions.
