MBQM-2026 — Many-Body Quantum Magic
05 Oct 2026 - 09 Oct 2026 • Trento, Italy
Abstract:
The “Workshop on Many-Body Quantum Magic” will bring together experts from universities, national laboratories and technology companies with expertise in quantum information science and various areas of many-body and high-energy physics, to further the development of quantum complexity – entanglement and nonstabilizerness (magic) – as a quantitative tool in the study of strongly correlated quantum systems, including those relevant to nuclear physics. Magic has been identified as the essential resource enabling quantum computers to outperform classical simulation methods, yet only recently have tools become available to quantify and analyze it in many-body settings. This development opens new opportunities to study the generation, manipulation and certification of magic in extended systems, with profound implications for quantum computation, simulation of physical systems, and our understanding of complex matter. The significance of this workshop lies in advancing fundamental aspects of quantum information science, while bridging quantum information science to fundamental physical systems, including nuclear many-body physics. Many-body systems exemplify highly correlated quantum matter whose simulation is computationally demanding, and where identifying the boundaries between classical and quantum tractability is of critical importance. By accelerating advances and applications of quantum magic in quantum information, condensed matter, nuclear physics and quantum chemistry, we can better characterize the limitations of current approaches, inform the design of efficient tensor-network and variational methods, and guide the development of quantum algorithms and simulations.
