08. Jan 2026 - 09. Jan 2026 • Firenze , Italien
Veranstalter:
Galileo Galilei Institute
Zusammenfassung:
This small workshop, focuses on advanced topics in perturbative Quantum Chromodynamics (QCD), inspired by the scientific legacy of Stefano Catani The main topic of this year's edition is Sudakov resummation. We plan to critically compare different resummation approaches, calculations in direct and conjugate spaces, in Soft Collinear Effective Theory (SCET) and direct QCD, parton showers and automated resummation techniques. We will also discuss the impact of resummation on the description of heavy-quark fragmentation and shape variables in e+e- annihilation, and its relevance for the accurate determination of the strong coupling.

WE-Heraeus-Seminar — Parity Violation in Molecules
29. Mär 2026 - 01. Apr 2026 • Bad Honnef, Deutschland
Veranstalter:
Wilhelm and Else Heraeus-Foundation
Zusammenfassung:
Fundamental symmetry breaking is important to understanding the formation of our universe including baryogenesis and the homochirality of living organisms. It plays an important role in finding a more complete theory than the Standard Model of particle physics. In recent years, molecules have become a leading platform to search for such symmetry breakings through precision metrology as they exhibit enhanced sensitivity and in particular, their many degrees of freedom can be leveraged to isolate violations of fundamental symmetries from the background. However, in recent years, the molecular precision spectroscopy community has become focused on simultaneous parity and time reversal symmetry violation, overlooking the equal importance of time-reversal symmetry even, parity violating effects. For example, despite its prediction in the 1960s, the parity violating energy difference between mirror-images of chiral molecules is yet to be observed, which is crucial for our understanding of molecular chirality. Only recently several individual works rediscovered the unique opportunities of molecular parity violation, indicating even its undiscovered potential in revealing new physics. Moreover, recent advancements in molecular quantum control and molecular theory may bring the detection of molecular parity violation now in reach for the first time. This workshop will use the momentum of these recent advances to refocus the attention on molecular parity violation experiments and foster collaboration in the field.

WE-Heraeus-Seminar — Challenges in Semileptonic Decays
11. Apr 2026 - 16. Apr 2026 • Bad Honnef, Deutschland
Veranstalter:
Wilhelm and Else Heraeus-Foundation
Zusammenfassung:
The study of flavor physics probes the structure of the Standard Model (SM) through the interactions and transitions among different generations of quarks and leptons. Despite its success, the SM cannot explain key features of our Universe, such as the dominance of matter over antimatter or the nature of dark matter. Semileptonic decays of beauty quarks play a central role in testing the SM and searching for new physics. They provide access to the Cabibbo–Kobayashi–Maskawa (CKM) matrix elements Vcb and Vub and enable stringent tests of lepton flavor universality (LFU). However, persistent discrepancies between inclusive and exclusive determinations of Vcb and Vub, as well as tensions in LFU observables such as R(D/D*), highlight unresolved challenges in our understanding of quark mixing and heavy-quark dynamics. The Belle II and LHCb experiments are now entering an era of percent-level precision, placing new demands on theoretical inputs, including lattice QCD form factors, heavy-quark expansions, and the modeling of excited charm contributions. Progress requires close coordination between experiment and theory to reduce hadronic and systematic uncertainties and to develop consistent global interpretations. The 856. WE-Heraeus-Seminar “Challenges in Semileptonic Decays” will gather leading experts to assess the current status of Vcb and Vub determinations, review LFU measurements, identify strategies to reduce uncertainties, and foster synergies between Belle II, LHCb, lattice QCD, and effective field theory communities toward a coherent roadmap for the next decade.

IAUS405 — IAUS 405: Traversing the Galactic Center in Space and Time
18. Mai 2026 - 22. Mai 2026 • Brno, Tschechische Republik
Veranstalter:
Masaryk University, Faculty of Science, Department of Theoretical Physics and Astrophysics
Zusammenfassung:
The Galactic Center (GC) plays a pivotal role in the evolution of the Milky Way. It is instrumental in mapping and understanding the central regions of quiescent galaxies since it is the closest galactic nucleus to us. It serves as a unique test bed for both stellar dynamics in an extremely dense environment as well as magnetohydrodynamics in the vicinity of the supermassive black hole Sagittarius A* (Sgr A*). It is fundamental for studying star formation, because the conditions of its interstellar medium (magnetic fields, temperature, turbulence) are unlike any other place in the Milky Way. Despite many detailed multiwavelength studies of the central regions of our Galaxy, we still have many open questions concerning its history and future evolution. This symposium will bring together experts working on both observational and theoretical studies of the Galactic Center so that they can “traverse” this exciting region from Sgr A* and the surrounding dense nuclear star cluster to the central molecular zone and back, covering about eight orders of magnitude in spatial length. Looking at the Galactic nucleus from this vantage point will uncover details of its past processes and potential future. We will explore the remarkable progress made since the last major meeting of the community—the Galactic Center Workshop in Granada (April 24–28, 2023). We will examine exciting new results, including those from JWST and GRAVITY/ERIS at the VLT, as well as insights from ALMA and MeerKAT.

Gauged Linear Sigma Models
29. Jun 2026 - 03. Jul 2026 • Mainz, Deutschland
Veranstalter:
Institute for Theoretical Physics, Johannes Gutenberg University
Zusammenfassung:
One of the most important tools to quantitatively describe families of two-dimensional conformal field theories are gauged linear sigma models (GLSMs). As such they offer a powerful and indispensable method to study string compactifications and their phase structures from a worldsheet perspective. Over the years, the scope of GLSMs has developed much further, namely not only as a methodology to study string theories, but also to address fundamental questions of (supersymmetric) quantum field theories, in particular in two, three and four dimensions. That is to say, GLSMs have provided key insights into numerous aspects of mathematical physics, offering a bridge to various fields in mathematics such as enumerative and algebraic geometry and category theory. The aim of this workshop is to bring together experts from physics and mathematics in order to address topical research questions and to identify new applications for GLSMs.

Bad Honnef Physics School — Dark Intersections
02. Aug 2026 - 07. Aug 2026 • Bad Honnef, Deutschland
Veranstalter:
Wilhelm and Else Heraeus-Foundation
Zusammenfassung:
Dark matter and dark energy dominate the mass and energy density in the universe but their composition is still unknown. There are various experimental efforts to solve this “elephant-in-the-room” problem. Some of the promising techniques involve areas of physics that are not widely known to workers in the field and are rarely discussed in “dark-sector” conferences and schools. An example is searches for axionlike particles with a ferromagnetic phase in liquid 3He. We will attempt to remedy this and several other similar gaps between seemingly disjunct research fields with this school for junior scientists, primarily, PhD students and postdocs on “Dark Intersections” ‒ the subdisciplines in physics that are used for the dark-sector and gravitational-wave research but are rarely studied in this context.
