NUSYS 2021 — The second NUclear physics School for Young Scientists

Zusammenfassung:
The second “NUclear physics School for Young Scientists (NUSYS 2021)” will be held by the China Institute of Atomic Energy in Ruichang city, Jiangxi province of China from Aug. 9 to Aug. 14, 2021, with arrival and check-in on Aug. 8. The goal of this school is to motivate the young PhD students and post-doctoral researchers by introducing them to the various facets of the nuclear physics and its applications to the nuclear science and technology, as well as the future prospects of the forthcoming nuclear facilities in east Asia.   Experts are invited to convey a view of the rich variety of present on-going activities in the field of experimental and theoretical nuclear physics and to exploit the opportunities created by the on-going or the next-generation nuclear physics facilities in particular in Asia, such as HIAF (High Intensity heavy ion Accelerator Facility), JUNA (Jinping Underground Nuclear Astrophysics facility) and BISOL (Beijing ISOL) which are being built or planned in China, RAON (Rare Isotope Science Project) in South Korea and RIBF (RI Beam Factory) in Japan. Each student is required to contribute to the school by presenting a poster related to her/his work. The six best posters will be selected for the oral presentation session at the school.

Due to the travel restriction of COVID-19, the school will be held in a hybrid mode including both onsite and remote forms. The onsite form (in person) is for domestic participants, and the remote form is for those participants from abroad.

The Carpathian Summer School of Physics 2020, which was to be the 29th edition of a well established tradition, was unfortunately cancelled in the summer of 2020 by the global coronavirus crisis. Instead, we now plan to have this Carpathian school in-person, on August 18-27, 2021, in the location of its latest editions: Sinaia, Romania. Students and young researchers are especially encouraged to attend.

ARIS 2021, the fourth International Conference on Advances in Radioactive Isotope Science, will be held in France's beautiful city of Avignon. Due to the Covid-19 pandemic, we have rescheduled ARIS to 5-10 September 2021. ARIS is the flagship conference for rare isotope science, born from a merger of the international conferences ‘Exotic Nuclei and Atomic Masses (ENAM)’ and ‘Radioactive Nuclear Beams (RNB)’. Following the tradition of the ARIS meetings in 2011 (Leuven), 2014 (Tokyo), and 2017 (Keystone), ARIS 2020 will facilitate vibrant exchange through a scientific program highlighting the most recent experimental and theoretical work.

TAU2021 is the 16th International Workshop on Tau Lepton Physics in the series devoted to the physics of the tau lepton and its associated neutrino. The goal of the workshop is to bring theorists and experimentalists together to discuss recent progress in the field. Latest results from e+e- colliders (Belle II, BESIII experiments), the proton-proton colliders (ATLAS, CMS and LHCb experiments), g-2 and the neutrino experiments (DUNE, MINOS, etc.) will be presented. Properties of the tau lepton, as well as methods of using tau leptons as a probe for new physics, will be discussed, along with a review of future experimental projects.

The main goal of the Symposium is to discuss the state of the art of our present knowledge of nuclear processes such as fission and quasifission in the region of the very heavy and superheavy nuclei and to identify possible physics cases to be explored with the two new facilities under development, the Super Heavy Element (SHE) factory in Dubna (Russia) and Selective Production of Exotic Species (SPES) in Legnaro (Italy). These two facilities can play an extremely important and unique role in accessing, with different capabilities, unexplored regions of the nuclear chart, in particular the unknown neutron rich side. This area of research is particularly relevant because is of interest for the nucleosynthesis of the elements heavier that iron (r-process) and for the understanding of the existence and persistence of the shell closures. The latter are the main ingredients for the predicted survival of superheavy elements against fission.

The Symposium is also intended as a platform for intensive and detailed discussions, and for gathering proposals regarding experimental programs during the operation of new facilities.

This conference series began in 1970 at Duke University. The Seville meeting follows the successful events in Glasgow (2013) and Tallahassee (2016); and canvass similar themes. It will highlight the physics of baryons and related subjects in astro-, nuclear- and particle-physics, developing our understanding of the spectrum, structure and reactions of baryons using all available tools. Particular emphasis will be placed on elucidating the role of confinement and emergent mass, key non-perturbative phenomena within the Standard Model. Pre-PAC Workshop for the AGATA physics campaign at LNL

The aim of the workshop is to assist the spokespersons in putting the strongest cases for their proposals forward through a discussion of the physics to be investigated, and to assess the feasibility of the experiments they intend to propose. This includes all experiments planning to use stable beams from the Tandem-ALPI-PIAVE complex for studies involving AGATA in a possible combination with PRISMA and/or ancillary detectors that are compatible with PRISMA. All such proposals will have to be discussed at this workshop before being submitted to the LNL PAC. This is to ascertain feasibility and to avoid overlaps.

Radioactive nuclei play a significant role in many current astrophysical pursuits, from the origin of the elements to the driving of emissions from supernovae (56Ni) and kilonovae (r-process radioactivity). Radioactive nuclei are crucial for direct studies of galactic enrichment (7Be, 26Al, 44Ti, 60Fe, 99Tc, 244Pu) and stellar explosions (56Ni, 44Ti). Stars and their explosions, galaxies and their evolving interstellar medium, and the origin of the solar system are among the targeted astrophysical objects. Stardust, meteorites, ocean floor deposits, cosmic-rays, and gamma-ray spectroscopy provide a rich variety of astronomy to exploit the inherent power of radioactivity. Investigation tools range from numerical models, astronomical instrumentation, and laboratory experiments to derive material compositions and nuclear reaction rates. The aim of the conference is to bring together researchers from all these different fields to promote interaction through the common ground of radioactivity.

The Torino Workshops series started in Torino in 1995. Since then, 12 workshops have been held by various institutions around the world. Traditionally, the Torino Workshop focuses on the physics of asymptotic giant branch (AGB) stars and many related topics: stellar evolution and nucleosynthesis, observations (photometry, spectrometry, and asteroseismology), stellar winds, dust and presolar grain formation, galactic chemical evolution, theoretical and experimental nuclear astrophysics. The workshop will bring together experts, and friends, involved in these research fields to identify current key scientific questions and the possible ways to address them by interdisciplinary approaches. This meeting edition will celebrate Prof. Maurizio M. Busso on the occasion of his 70th birthday. The Zakopane Conference on Nuclear Physics, for historical reasons called School, has been organized since 1963 by the Henryk Niewodniczanski Institute of Nuclear Physics of the Polish Academy of Sciences (IFJ PAN) and the Marian Smoluchowski Institute of Physics of the Jagiellonian University. Over the years the School became famous worldwide conference. Nowadays, the Zakopane Conference on Nuclear Physics has a character of a biennial international congress and is one of the major events in Poland, related to the low energy nuclear physics.
