8th International ISPRS Workshop — LowCost 3D - Sensors, Algorithms, Applications

Zusammenfassung:
Low-Cost 3D (LC3D) is a series of international ISPRS workshops on low-cost three-dimensional sensor systems and tools, ranging from low-cost acquisition devices like handheld scanning systems over inexpensive photogrammetric algorithms to processing software and applications. Initiated by Prof. Frank Neitzel from Technical University Berlin and Prof. Ralf Reulke from Humboldt-University in Berlin, the workshops were initially organized and hosted in Berlin (2011, 2013, 2015). In 2017 the 5th workshop was hosted by the HafenCity University Hamburg, in 2019 the 6th edition of the workshop took place at INSA Strasbourg, France while in 2019 at the University of Würzburg, Germany.

Fluctuations are a fundamental manifestation of the microscopic stochastic/quantum dynamics of physical systems. They are present at very different scales and give rise to a plethora of effects, relevant across various research fields. Understanding the origin of fluctuation-induced phenomena is rapidly becoming important not only for fundamental investigations but also for the characterization of experimental setups and for the opportunities and challenges that they offer to modern technologies. The seminar covers a broad range of subjects having fluctuations as a common denominator. It focuses on current challenges encompassing diverse physical systems both in and out of equilibrium, spanning different scales and configurations.

Mobile or even miniaturized THz devices enable novel applications in areas such as imaging, counting, localizing cells in our vessels and organs by miniaturized THz receiver arrays, recording of body and indirectly even muscle movements or detecting of plant and insect interactions by miniaturized THz radars, detecting and localizing bacteria and viruses in our environment or the composition of gases in space by miniaturized THz spectroscopy, dynamically mapping or testing materials in our environment with mobile THz reflectometry, transmitting data at extremely high rates or connecting a multitude of IoT devices by mobile THz communication. Therefore, ICM²TS focuses on the numerous scientific challenges of various applications through successive miniaturization. It becomes increasingly clear that the relationship between structure and function of hierarchical biominerals can only be understood by connecting the length scales and interrogating comprehensively the impact of atomic-level organisation and the multi-level assembly of the resulting composites. This Faraday Discussion will focus on the application of advanced methods to scrutinise existing paradigms in biomineralization and improve our understanding of mineralisation across length scales by bringing together different communities including world-leading experts in relevant imaging and spectroscopy techniques with the biomineralization community where these methods are commonly used.

To benefit from the predicted superior properties of high-entropy alloy (HEA) nanostructures in future energy solutions, many fundamental scientific questions and challenges still remain. These include: the development of new synthetic routes to achieve nanostructures with compositional, morphological and structural control; development of new high-throughput characterization routines to examine the structural and elemental distribution of multi-elemental nanostructured materials with high spatial resolution; the development of theoretical models to predict the catalytic properties and active sites driving the reactions on multi-elemental surfaces; the evolution of HEA nanostructured catalysts under realistic operating conditions; magnetic properties of HEAs. This Faraday Discussion aims to bring together pioneers within this area in a cross-disciplinary manner by providing a platform to explore possible solutions to these challenges, while establishing a fundamental understanding of these novel materials.
