Workshop "Rigorous analysis of incompressible fluid models and turbulence"
14 Feb 2022 - 18 Feb 2022 • Newton Institute, United Kingdom
Isaac Newton Institute for Mathematical Sciences
The rigorous analysis of the Euler and Navier-Stokes equations (and other models of fluid dynamics) can contribute to our understanding of turbulence. Results on regularity often exclude physical singularities of particular types, and so can influence coarser-scale modelling. Progress on questions that appear at first purely mathematical, such as the Onsager Conjecture (minimal smoothness for conservation of energy in the Euler equations), can provide insights towards foundations of the classical theory of turbulence, namely the dissipation anomaly (finite energy dissipation in the limit of zero viscosity). Analysis of boundary layers is central to many asymptotic approaches to fluid flows, and key mathematical questions remain here too, closely related to convergence of Navier-Stokes to Euler flows.

PAD'22 — Probability, Analysis and Dynamics '22
06 Apr 2022 - 08 Apr 2022 • Bristol, United Kingdom
University of Bristol, School of Mathematics
This is the third event of a series of conferences featuring talks by leading researchers in the three areas who are also capable of conveying their message to the audience coming from various regions of these fields. Beside the leading senior figures we also invite as speakers a smaller number of younger colleagues who have already shown their lion's claws.

Summer Graduate School — Metric Geometry and Geometric Analysis
11 Jul 2022 - 23 Jul 2022 • Oxford, United Kingdom
Mathematical Sciences Research Institute (MRSI) and University of Oxford
The purpose of the summer school is to introduce graduate students to key mainstream directions in the recent development of geometry, which sprang from Riemannian Geometry in an attempt to use its methods in various contexts of non-smooth geometry. This concerns recent developments in metric generalizations of the theory of nonpositively curved spaces and discretizations of methods in geometry, geometric measure theory and global analysis. The metric geometry perspective gave rise to new results and problems in Riemannian Geometry as well.

Shape optimization and geometric spectral theory
19 Sep 2022 - 23 Sep 2022 • Edinburgh , United Kingdom
Spectral geometry, calculus of variations, and elliptic PDEs are a central part of modern analysis and geometric analysis. At the same time, these have important applications in other sciences, in particular mathematical physics. This workshop aims to bring together leading experts in these fields to discuss the main developments and open questions. The main research themes of the workshop include shape optimisation and sharp functional inequalities, Robin boundary value problems, Steklov eigenvalue problems, and properties of eigenfunctions and solutions to elliptic PDEs.
