There are significant efforts and investments (from both government and industry) to jump start the quantum information-based industry in the last decade. While quantum communication and computing are shifting from laboratory-based demonstrations to physical deployment from land to space, critical challenges remain in scaling the quantum network, computer, and storage capabilities for making quantum information technology a practical proposition. The specialized materials development required for exploiting superposition and entanglement in various systems is one major bottleneck. This symposium seeks to bring together key international researchers working directly at the frontline of research to solve the material critical challenges for scalable quantum information technologies. Through the confluence of ideas and disciplines, we hope to achieve greater awareness and support for this important field and engender new and productive collaborations that could accelerate the materials development that is crucial to propel the quantum industry into viable reality.
