Dagstuhl-Seminar — Safety Assurance for Autonomous Mobility
11 Feb 2024 - 16 Feb 2024 • Schloss Dagstuhl, Wadern, Germany
Organizer:
Schloss Dagstuhl - Leibniz-Zentrum für Informatik
Abstract:
The tremendous potential of driverless cars and other autonomous vehicles is contrasted by the growing concerns about their safety. Recent accidents have highlighted the risks autonomous vehicles pose to occupants, pedestrians, and other road users. The uptake of autonomous mobility systems relies upon public trust in the safety of these systems, which poses an inherently inter-disciplinary problem, related to multiple fields such as autonomy, machine learning, formal methods, control theory, automotive, railway, and aerospace.

Workshop on „Automation in Diffraction“
14 Mar 2024 - 15 Mar 2024 • Garching, Germany
Organizer:
Institute for Advanced Study (IAS), TU München
Abstract:
Level of automation in lab and large-scale facility experiments display enourmous increase in recent decades, where progress in diffraction studies of various kind is very remarkable. Relevance for automation in diffraction is driven by a multitude of reasons, ranging from improving efficiency in data collection and analysis, mail in and remote experiments to enabling more advanced and complex studies. In order to adress them, we organise one day „noon-to-noon“ Workshop „Automation in Diffraction“ taking place in Garching b. München on March, 14-15, 2024. The goal is to gather diffraction specialists and to discuss the challenges and solution strategies towards automation in diffraction experiments with respect to increase of instrumental throughput, enhancement of rapid and remote access as well as mail in services in diffraction applications.

Dagstuhl-Seminar — Methods and Tools for the Engineering and Assurance of Safe Autonomous Systems
07 Apr 2024 - 12 Apr 2024 • Schloss Dagstuhl, Wadern, Germany
Organizer:
Schloss Dagstuhl - Leibniz-Zentrum für Informatik
Abstract:
Autonomous systems are intended to operate without human intervention over prolonged time periods, perceive their operating environment, and adapt to changes – while pursuing defined goals or generating new ones. The perception functions process the inputs of various sensors and generate an internal model of the operating environment. By relying on this model, the decision functions plan and execute the actions required to achieve the goals of the mission. To achieve safety for an autonomous system, the engineers should ensure that the perception functions can sufficiently accurately build the model of the environment, i.e., perception and establishing a context for prediction are reliable. They also seek to ensure that the planned actions are safe, i.e., decisions do not result in actions that endanger humans or other agents in the operating environment.
