For the past 70 years, active research on Theoretical and Applied Mechanics (TAM) has contributed greatly to the development of science and technology and resulted in the establishment of many global industries in Korea. There is still a strong need for TAM activities in a wide range of areas including energy, environment, production, social security, healthcare engineering, and the like. Moreover, TAM now plays an essential role in number of academic associations and research institutes. I believe that ICTAM 2024 will have a strong impact on the research and development of mechanics in Korea, as well as many other industries, and contribute greatly to the development of the IUTAM community. With the theme of “Human-centered Mechanics” for ICTAM 2024, we would like to have an opportunity to reflect on what we have achieved over the past century and to identify our goals for theoretical and applied mechanics in the next 100 years.

The 24th European Conference on Fracture (ECF24) is organised by the European Structural Integrity Society (ESIS) and by the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering and Naval Architecture, University of Zagreb.

ICEM, the reference International Conference for Electrical Machines specialists from industry and academia, is held every two years since 1974.The 26th and 50th anniversary edition will take place on campus at Politecnico di Torino, Turin/ Italy, on September 1-4, 2024.

Innovative optimization and design techniques for modern aircraft (manned or UAV/UCAV) and engine systems aiming at maximum performance in a multidisciplinary context (aerodynamic efficiency, safety, drag, losses, weight, strength, heat fluxes, emission, noise, …), are now rapidly moving from research labs to industrial real and virtual platforms. To reach concurrently this level of excellence, emergent optimization methodologies require more and more robust and efficient associated software for a daily use in industrial collaborative design environments. This course intends to provide the basic concepts and tools behind this technology, both in single discipline (single point or multi point design) and multidisciplinary (fluid-structure interaction, fluid-acoustics, conjugate heat transfer, …) context. Subjects which will be treated in detail include: gradient based and steepest descent methods, adjoint methods, one shot or goal oriented methods, evolutionary/differential evolution algorithms on parallel environments, game strategies like Pareto Fronts and Nash Equilibrium, parameterization, surrogate and reduced-order modeling (Radial Basis functions, Artificial Neural Networks, Kriging …), multifidelity modeling approaches, robust design, … The content of this Course is oriented towards junior and experienced engineers and researchers involved in the field of multi disciplinary design and looking for innovative numerical solutions - or set of solutions- for complex multi criteria optimization problems.

State Key Laboratory of Mechanical Transmission for Advanced Equipment in China

In recent years, to meet the escalating demands of modern industry and society, the mechanical transmission technology has been making continual progress and getting new achievements in design theories, advanced materials, processing and evaluation techniques. Currently, new applications such as large megawatt wind turbines, new energy vehicles, all electrical equipment, etc., and increasingly stringent environmental protection requirements poses significant challenges to mechanical transmission. Meanwhile, the emergence of cutting-edge technologies such as artificial intelligence and digital twins bring new revolution to the mechanical transmission. Therefore, State Key Laboratory of Mechanical Transmission for Advanced Equipment in China is organizing the International Conference on Mechanical Transmission (ICMT 2025), which offers a shared platform for scientists, manufacturers and users, to discuss and present trends and innovations in mechanical transmission. On behalf of the Organization of ICMT 2025, we are delighted to invite academic researchers and industrial engineers from all around the world to participate in this event, scheduled for 17-20 April 2025, in Chongqing, China.
