Mathematical Challenges and Opportunities for Autonomous Vehicles
14 Sep 2020 - 18 Dec 2020 • Los Angeles, CA, United States
Abstract:
Autonomous vehicle (AV) research and development has achieved a similar status in terms of money invested, societal excitement, and media coverage as space travel and exploration. At the same time, AV research is not rocket science; it is more complicated: while in itself, an AV is no more complex than a spacecraft, it must reliably interact and communicate with many other agents, particularly humans both inside and outside of the vehicle, much of it in a de-centralized fashion. Hence, AVs, and their impact on us humans and our transportation systems, incur some of the most complicated science and engineering challenges that we shall face in the near future. At the same time, there is some disconnect across the various research communities: professional product development is highly opaque, and public expectations and media communications are frequently inaccurate or exaggerated.

Organizer:
Automotive Circle
Abstract:
When conventional production technologies reach their limits, it is time for additive manufacturing to strike. Additive manufacturing promises faster product development and replacement, better parts properties and significant cost savings. The huge potential of additive manufacturing processes can best be explored by structurally combining complex assemblies into a single component and integrating additional functions. This will ultimately save development time and cut assembly and production costs.

Car Body Painting - Insight @ Porsche 2020
22 Sep 2020 - 23 Sep 2020 • Stuttgart, Germany
Organizer:
Automotive Circle
Abstract:
The focus of the "Car Body Painting Insight @ Porsche" is, of course, the paint shop, which conference participants can examine in detail on an exclusive guided tour. At various stations, experts will provide information on how, for example, the latest technologies from Industry 4.0 have been implemented in production. The production concept is highly flexible and designed with the goal of CO2 neutrality in mind. In addition to the use of electricity from renewable sources and biogas for heat generation, the new production buildings are also energy-efficient. In view of the limited space available and the extremely short construction period, a "factory within a factory" was built without disrupting the existing sports car production, which is running at full capacity.

Workshop II: Safe Operation of Connected and Autonomous Vehicle Fleets
26 Oct 2020 - 30 Oct 2020 • Los Angeles, CA, United States
Organizer:
UCLA / IPAM
Abstract:
The goal of ensuring safe mobility has been at the forefront of government agencies and industry since the introduction of the mechanized transportation. Connected vehicle technologies were initially introduced to allow vehicle to vehicle and vehicle to infrastructure systems to enable the next generation of safe vehicles. Similarly, autonomous vehicles has often been looked at as a way to reduce accidents and fatalities, often associated with human error. However, fulfilling the promise of vision zero (zero deaths, accidents, etc.) is still a long way off (or maybe not possible at all?). This workshop is aimed at understanding if it is possible to build provably safe vehicles that operate in the presence of humans, both as passengers of the AVs and as pedestrians, bicyclists, etc.

Tagung Fahrzeugklimatisierung
09 Dec 2020 - 10 Dec 2020 • Ostfildern, Germany
Organizer:
V. (TAE)
Abstract:

15 Jun 2021 - 16 Jun 2021 • Aachen, Germany
Organizer:
Haus der Technik e. V.
