We welcome the 1st International Monogenetic Conference (1st IMC), conference, which succeeds the International Maar Conference, organized by the International Association of Volcanology and Chemistry of Earth’s Interior (IAVCEI) Commission on Monogenetic Volcanism and the Millennium Institute on Volcanic Risk Research – Ckelar Volcanoes (Chile). The conference will be held in San Pedro de Atacama (Chile) between the 4th (Monday) and 8th (Friday) of November 2024. The 1st IMC is a multidisciplinary conference on monogenetic volcanism, covering a wide spectrum of topics. These, among others, include physical volcanology, stratigraphy, field geology, geochemistry, petrology, and geophysics of small-volume volcanoes, modelling of volcanic explosions, along with environmental, cultural heritage, economic and hazard aspects related to monogenetic systems and crater lakes.

SOLAS sponsors and co-sponsors long-standing Activities, new Initiatives, and Events. In addition to the large SOLAS events, such as the Open Science Conferences and the Summer Schools, SOLAS organises thematic Workshops. The Surface Ocean–Lower Atmosphere Study (SOLAS) is an international and interdisciplinary research project on biogeochemical-physical air-sea interactions and climate change.

The discussions will centre around wintertime and cold region atmospheric chemistry and its impacts on health, geochemical cycles, and climate. Central to this discussion are aspects that make gas- and multiphase atmospheric science in cold environments unique, including but not limited to the presence of ice clouds, snow, and sea ice.
