Meetings/Workshops on Biology in France

05 Sep 2022 - 10 Sep 2022 • Lyon , France
A 5-day programme of lectures and practical classes with a strong taxonomic focus including extensive microscope lab sessions. A grounding in Cenozoic research will be provided through lectures on paleoceanography, nannofossil microscopy, image capture. We will then review the current nannofossil biozonal schemes, discuss their usefulness for biostratigraphical applications, and present case studies examining the geological evolution of these microfossils. A geological excursion on the 6th day day to visit the historical stratotype of Berriasian. This summer school is primarily intended for research students (Masters or PhD level), and early career-stage industrial biostratigraphers interested in nannofossil micropalaeontology, and its applications in biostratigraphy, and palaeoceanography.

EMBO Workshop — Adherent microbial communities: Quantitative approaches from single cell to ecosystems
10 Oct 2022 - 14 Oct 2022 • Cargese, France
European Molecular Biology Organization – EMBO
Bacteria form complex spatially structured adherent communities which involve physical forces, chemical gradients and cooperative cell-cell interactions. An integrated view of these processes at all scales from the single cell to mesoscale patterns and ecosystems requires microbiologists and physicists to bridge large disciplinary gaps. To this purpose, the involved scientific communities must not only establish new cross-disciplinary language but also train the next generation of scientists to these emerging challenges. This EMBO workshop aims to fulfill this ambitious goal and connect senior and junior researchers through a series of lectures, seminars and workshops that will zoom in, from single cell approaches, and out, to the ecology of complex microbial consortia.

XXII GEM — The 22nd congress of the French Membrane Group
14 Mar 2023 - 17 Mar 2023 • Autrans, France
French Membrane Group (GEM)
GEM brings together researchers, biologists, biochemists, biophysicists, physicists and chemists interested in biological phenomena associated with membranes at all levels, from the organ to the molecule. The meeting will focus on the structure, dynamics and function of membranes and will be locally organised by researchers from different institutes situated in Grenoble where several well-known European and national research facilities are located.
