EMBO Lecture Course — Modeling development and disease with human tissue organoids
06 Feb 2023 - 09 Feb 2023 • Bangalore , India
Organizer:
European Molecular Biology Organization – EMBO
Abstract:
The India-EMBO Lecture course on “Modeling development and disease with human tissue organoids" will bring together researchers working on diverse systems using interdisciplinary approaches to develop organoids to address key questions of human development and disease. Speakers will introduce this frontier area of research, and associated technological and scientific advances, to student and postdoc trainees via lectures and training sessions. This will be the first meeting in this research area to be organized in India and will be of tremendous value in terms of capacity-building and training. Major themes will include neural (neocortex, hippocampus, hypothalamus, retina) and non-neural (kidney, pancreas, skeletal muscle) organoids with a focus on technological advances in bioengineering, imaging, and transcriptomic and epigenomic analyses, which have led to unparalleled new insights into organ function. A key topic of discussion will be the use of organoids to model disease conditions, such as cancer and neurological diseases, which has the potential to transform personalized medicine.

EMBO Lecture Course — Tumour metabolism: Current understanding and opportunities for novel drug discovery
28 Mar 2023 - 31 Mar 2023 • Noida – hybrid, India
Organizer:
European Molecular Biology Organization – EMBO
Abstract:
The unique glycolytic behaviour is present in nearly all cancer cell types. Cancer cells quickly adapt and reprogram glucose metabolism to meet their bioenergetic and biosynthetic requirements for growth and survival. A key to developing novel and effective cancer therapies is to tackle the complex metabolic ecosystem that cancer and stroma cells establish within the tumour microenvironment. This metabolic ecosystem ensures the high demand of energy and essential nutrients for tumour progression. Research on the distinct metabolic phenotype of cancer cells compared to normal cells is growing steadily to target metabolic vulnerabilities for new therapeutics in cancer. This India I EMBO Lecture Course will bring together eminent researchers and experts across the disciplines of cancer and molecular biology, structural biology, bioinformatics, medicinal chemistry and drug discovery, to share the recent advances, challenges, and opportunities in the field of tumour metabolism and drug discovery.
