ICEDyn — International Conference on Structural Engineering Dynamics
23 Jun 2025 - 25 Jun 2025 • Lisbon, Portugal
Organizer:
Institute of Mechanical Engineering (IDMEC) of the Instituto Superior Técnico of the University of Lisbon and Research and Development Unit in Mechanical and Industrial Engineering (UNIDEMI) of the Nova School of Science and Technology of NOVA University
Abstract:
The International Conference on Structural Engineering Dynamics (ICEDyn 2025) has the objective of bringing together various subjects that may be understood as part of a whole big area of Structural Engineering Dynamics. It is indeed a vast area, which comprehends not only Mechanical Engineering but also Civil, Aeronautical and other akin disciplines. All subjects are welcome within this big umbrella, although the organisers would like to give relevance to some topics in particular, to orient the possible attendees and provide some guidelines. In what structural dynamics is concerned, the main topics considered here have to do with experimental and operational modal analysis and testing, validation and updating of numerical models, new developments in experimental techniques, modelling of damping, structural health monitoring, substructuring, active control, smart materials, nonlinear dynamics, railway dynamics, rotating machinery and vibro-acoustics. It is anticipated that the conference will appeal to a very wide range of disciplines, from aeronautical and civil engineering structures to all forms of machinery. The organisers expect that the conference may be run in two or at most three parallel sections to avoid dispersion and help congregating people to fruitful and nice interactive discussions.

EUROMECH Tribology Mini-Symposium "Tactile and Perception" 2025
07 Jul 2025 - 11 Jul 2025 • Lyon, France
Abstract:
Tactile is the sense that keeps us in touch with our environment, through the direct interaction between our skin and surrounding surfaces. Its understanding is, however, still at a fairly primitive stage in comparison to eg vision. Tactile perception is the result of a complex physical and biological chain where the field of tribology lies at the heart of the process: the mechanical stimuli originated at the contact interface between the skin and the explored surface. Transient strain and stress fields, related to friction forces and induced vibrations, are transduced and processed by the brain; they are heavily influenced both by the environment and our health. Specific attention will be placed on the reproduction, analysis and rendering of tactile stimuli from the skin deformation in quasi-static and dynamic regimes during friction on different surfaces or tactile stimulators. This will enable a more detailed understanding of the tactile sense, the ability to tune a tactile interaction using topographic and materials choices, or to reproduce a tactile experience using a digital route. This symposium plans to bring together experts in all aspects of this exciting and expanding new field, to provide an interdisciplinary forum.
Topics:
Experimental technics for tactile analysis and processing; Development and exploitation of devices for tactile rendering; Numerical and theoretical approaches aimed to support the understanding of underlying physics; Multidisciplinary works aimed at deciphering the different links of the perception chain

ESMC2025 — 12th European Solid Mechanics Conference
07 Jul 2025 - 11 Jul 2025 • Lyon, France
Abstract:
The European Solid Mechanics Conference is the major event for the solid mechanics community in Europe, and provides a unique forum for scientists and engineers from Europe and across the world to exchange ideas on the current state-of-the-art in the mechanics of solids, on new concepts and ideas and to identify new research directions. Solid mechanics is a critically important element in the design and development of almost all technologies and products in many areas, such as aircraft, automobiles, buildings, bridges, and medical implants and devices. Further, solid mechanics is a key enabler in the development of new technologies that address the major global challenges of our time in sustainability, renewable energy and health. The European Solid Mechanics Conference is managed by the Euromech community and was first held in Munich in 1991. This very successful conference initiated a tri-annual series with subsequent conferences held in Genova, Stockholm, Metz, Thessaloniki, Budapest, Lisbon, Graz, Madrid, Bologna and Galway. The 12th European Solid Mechanics Conference will take place at the convention center in LYON, France.

Postgraduate/specialization course — Tribocorrosion : fundamentals and engineering applications
20 Oct 2025 - 21 Oct 2025 • TU Wien, Austria
Abstract:
In many engineering situations materials surfaces are exposed to the combined attack by corrosion and abrasion or other mechanical loadings. The material transformation caused by a tribological contact in chemically reactive environments is known as tribocorrosion. Tribocorrosion is found in a great a new variety of engineering applications such as seals and bearings for hydrogen transportation, valves and pumps for chemicals, biomedical implants, power plants, geothermal and marine installations and many others. Tribocorrosion can not be predicted solely by considering the involved phenomena (corrosion and tribology) separately but requires an integrated approach. This course is intended to give to the participants (graduates, researchers and industrial professionals) a solid basic background in tribocorrosion. It covers the basic concepts of tribology, corrosion and tribocorrosion, the description of the experimental techniques and of the existing interpretation tools and prcatical cases illustrating how to apply the theoretical background into real practice. At the end of the course participants will have the tools to identify and to approach tribocorrosion problems.
