Gordon Research Conference — Many-Body Quantum Systems: Quantum Computing, Simulation, Sensing, and Emerging Platforms
28 Jul 2024 - 02 Aug 2024 • Easton, United States
Abstract:
Quantum information science has made remarkable strides, with transformational breakthroughs in even the last five years. Quantum computers are becoming increasingly powerful, and companies and researchers are exploring their potential for solving complex problems, having now demonstrated first results that go beyond the capabilities of classical simulators. Despite these advances, critical challenges remain between present capabilities and transformative, fault-tolerant quantum computing: development of error correction codes to mitigate the effects of decoherence; development of scalable hardware architectures; and even discovery of algorithms that efficiently leverage quantum advantage. Furthermore, establishing practical quantum networks requires further exploration. This GRC aims to convene experienced and early-career researchers from both academic and industrial backgrounds, fostering discussions, idea exchange, and the juxtaposition of theoretical advancements with experimental achievements.

Optica Incubator on Frequency Combs for Chemical, Biological, and Medical Applications
09 Oct 2024 - 11 Oct 2024 • Washington, DC, United States
Organizer:
Optica
Abstract:
Optical frequency combs are precise rulers which have been used for applications such as optical clocks and spectroscopy. Generating on-chip microcavity optical frequency combs for biological and chemical applications is an emerging area that is poised to have an impact throughout the optics and photonics community by significantly improving the sensitivity and specificity of biochemical sensors. The application of frequency comb technology to biology, chemistry, and medicine can lead to advances in molecular diagnostics as well as an improved understanding of disease mechanisms.

Optica Photonic-Enabled Cloud Computing (PECC) Industry Summit at Synopsys
22 Oct 2024 - 23 Oct 2024 • Sunnyvale, California, United States
Organizer:
Optica
Abstract:
Optica-APC Industry Summit - The Premier Annual Event for Leaders in Cloud Computing Technologies So that both attendees and speakers can speak freely and interact in-person, we will not be recording or offering an online participation. Join us at Synopsys - 675 Almanor Avenue, Sunnyvale, CA 94085. Optica Industry Summits are 2-day programs that feature panel presentations, in-person networking opportunities, and external company visits and tours. Optica is partnering with APC to host the third annual Cloud Computing Industry Summit. It has a focus on bringing companies together in the supply chain to discuss the innovations and deployment of optics in data center applications and beyond. Users and system integrators will give their views about the technology trends, timelines, and what’s needed from the optics community as the industry migrates from face-pluggable transceivers to optics co-packaged with switch electronics. What’s already here? What’s coming? What’s missing? We look forward to connecting!

Optica Incubator on Programmable Photonics
06 Nov 2024 - 08 Nov 2024 • Washington, DC, United States
Organizer:
Optica
Abstract:
Photonic chip platforms are now reaching a maturity where they can be put to actual use. However, developing a new chip is still slow, costly, and error-prone. Programmable photonics can lower this threshold by providing a tool to prototype new functionality without the need to go through a costly chip design-fabrication-test cycle. This programmability combined with new architectures and algorithms opens novel application possibilities, including ones that self-configure in real time to changing inputs and requirements. This programmability can be a game changer for the adoption of photonics into new fields and for growing the user community beyond the small crowd with a PhD in photonics.

Optica Incubator on Spatiotemporal Structuring of Light
13 Nov 2024 - 15 Nov 2024 • Washington, DC, United States
Organizer:
Optica
Abstract:
Optical fields are described in terms of their spatial, temporal, and polarization degrees of freedom (DoFs), which are usually modulated independently of each other. This is the foundation of the separate fields of optical beams, ultrafast pulses, and vector fields. The past five years have witnessed a paradigm shift, whereby the insights developed in these fields are merging to lay the foundation for spatiotemporally structured light, in which the spatial, temporal, and polarization DoFs are modulated jointly. New optical field structures have rapidly emerged, unexpected propagation behaviors have been observed, and novel interactions of such optical fields with photonic devices have been investigated. A plethora of applications are anticipated as these concepts are further explored and their foundations established.
