Flux tubes, Quark Confinement and Exotic Hadrons

Zusammenfassung:
Understanding how color is confined in QCD, and the binding of quarks into hadrons, is one of the major unresolved challenges in fundamental physics. The central piece in this puzzle is the chromoelectric flux tube, or confining string, which holds quarks together. In recent years, tantalizing new insights into the dynamical properties of confining strings have been obtained using various theoretical tools such as effective string theory, integrability, the modern S-matrix bootstrap, and gauge/gravity duality. Lattice gauge theory supplies important information about the spectrum of flux tube excitations. Finally, the recent experimental discovery of heavy flavor tetraquarks provides a direct observational probe of flux tube junctions. This conference will bring together experts in these different fields to initiate the exchange of ideas and stimulate future cross-disciplinary developments.

Open to all members of the HEP theory community, this meeting will also provide an opportunity to cultivate interactions between theorists working across all frontiers of Snowmass.

NDM22 — 7th Symposium on Neutrinos and Dark Matter in Nuclear Physics

The NDM symposia are designed to bring together researchers in the fields of neutrino physics, astrophysics, dark-matter physics, and nuclear-structure physics to discuss the theory and experimental developments needed to investigate neutrinos and dark matter with nuclear targets or decay, astrophysical phenomena, etc. With the growing role of astrophysics and low-energy experiments in fundamental physics, the NDM symposia are an increasingly important way to exchange ideas and results among people from different areas. No other large meetings address, for example, the role of nuclear structure in fundamental physics.

EBSS2022 — Exotic Beam Summer School

The nineteenth installment of the Exotic Beam Summer School (EBSS2022) will be hosted by the Nuclear Science Laboratory of the University of Notre Dame in Summer 2022. The summer school will introduce students and young researchers to various facets of the science of exotic nuclei including nuclear structure, nuclear astrophysics, fundamental symmetries, and the application of nuclear science and technology. The format of the school is unique. In the mornings, students will attend lectures from leading researchers in the field of nuclear physics with exotic beams. Lectures will focus on theoretical, experimental, technical and applied topics. In the afternoons, students will participate in hands-on activities in which they directly apply the material they learned in the lectures. These activities will make use of a suite of experimental equipment of the University of Notre Dame’s Nuclear Science Laboratory, including the radioactive ion beam facility TwinSol, and our three on-site electrostatic accelerators. In addition to the lectures and activities, the students will present their own research work during poster sessions.

Talking Integrability: Spins, Fields, and Strings

The aim of this conference is to provide a survey of the most recent advances in the study of integrable models coming from the fields of mathematical physics, condensed-matter physics and string theory. Topics will include integrable deformations of CFTs and IQFTs, integrable spin-chains and their non-equilibrium dynamics, integrable structures on the string worldsheet, in AdS(d+1)/CFT(d) and, in the case of d=2, their relation to the CFT(2) structures. In view of the large number of recent developments and of the relative fragmentation of the community, the conference will strive to bring together researchers from across all fields and offer a pedagogical bird's-eye view of the field, suitable for integrability practitioners of all backgrounds.

Noisy Intermediate-Scale Quantum Systems: Advances and Applications

The goal of this conference is to explore connections between many-body quantum dynamics, quantum complexity theory, and the use and validation of noisy, intermediate-scale quantum (NISQ) devices. Key topic areas for this conference include (i) novel dynamical regimes and phases in quantum circuits, (ii) quantum simulation, error mitigation, and validation of NISQ devices, and (iii) quantum optimization algorithms and quantum many-body physics. The conference will provide a key opportunity for a targeted evaluation of productive areas for cross-collaboration for scientists in quantum information science, computer science, and condensed-matter physics.
