Résumé:
This workshop will introduce the influence of ionization radiation from encapsulated radionuclides on waste forms and different modelling approaches for assessing safety under storage or disposal conditions. IAEA is partnering with International Centre for Theoretical Physics (ICTP) to deliver a workshop to teach the modelling of ionizing radiation (that arises from radionuclide decay) on the properties of a waste form and use this information to design long-term storage facilities and management procedures.
Sujets:
Basics of interaction of ionizing radiation with cementitious, vitrified and ceramic waste forms; Principles of radiation shielding; Introduction to the transport of ionising radiation; Practical exercises using Mathcad point-kernel method to calculate dose rates and decay heat; Other exercises depending on availability of modelling software.

The two-week School is designed for early career professionals from developing countries, ideally with 1-3 years of experience and working at relevant institutions in their home countries. The school provides an intense contemporary overview of nuclear security. Candidates should have a specific career interest in or knowledge of nuclear security, although academic and technical backgrounds may vary. Candidates with a scientific or technical background in a discipline such as nuclear physics, nuclear engineering, international relations, law enforcement, or related fields are especially encouraged to apply.

SATIF-16 — Sixteenth Workshop on Shielding Aspects of Accelerators, Targets and Irradiation Facilities

Résumé:
The Sixteenth Workshop on Shielding Aspects of Accelerators, Targets and Irradiation Facilities (SATIF-16) will take place on 28-31 May 2024 at the National Laboratories of Frascati of the Italian National Institute for Nuclear Physics. The SATIF workshops aim to promote information exchange among experts in the fields of radiation physics and the application of ionising radiations in different fields of science and technology. The event will address important aspects related to the modeling and design of accelerator shielding, as well as updates on new and emerging features of the computation tools including FLUKA, MARS, and PHITS, high resolution radiological assessments for large scale areas with automated run-time optimisation for the simulation of deep penetration of radiation in shielding structures, machine learning driven design optimisations, and comprehensive benchmarking exercises.
