Theory and Computation for 2D Materials
13 jan 2020 - 17 jan 2020 • Institute for Pure and Applied Mathematics (IPAM),, États-Unis
Résumé:
The unique electronic, optical, and mechanical properties of 2D materials have sparked an extraordinary level of experimental, theoretical, and computational activity in the materials science and physics communities. Interest in the mathematics community has recently emerged to develop rigorous foundations, improved models, and computational methods. This IPAM workshop will enable exchanges among the mathematics community and the theoretical and computational materials science and physics communities working on 2D materials. Topics to be discussed include electronic structure, transport, plasmonics, and mechanics. The workshop will include a poster session; a request for posters will be sent to registered participants in advance of the workshop.

AIM Workshop: Mathematics of topological insulators
16 mar 2020 - 20 mar 2020 • New York, New York, États-Unis
Résumé:
This workshop, sponsored by AIM, the Simons Foundation, and the NSF, will consider the role of topology in characterizing materials and in the prediction of their physical properties, particularly for two-dimensional material such as graphene. The focus will be on important mathematical questions at the interface of the analysis and topology in the context of the governing fundamental partial differential equations and other models. Two such questions are the bulk edge correspondence and the existence and robustness of edge states in aperiodic settings.
