For the past 70 years, active research on Theoretical and Applied Mechanics (TAM) has contributed greatly to the development of science and technology and resulted in the establishment of many global industries in Korea. There is still a strong need for TAM activities in a wide range of areas including energy, environment, production, social security, healthcare engineering, and the like. Moreover, TAM now plays an essential role in number of academic associations and research institutes. I believe that ICTAM 2024 will have a strong impact on the research and development of mechanics in Korea, as well as many other industries, and contribute greatly to the development of the IUTAM community. With the theme of “Human-centered Mechanics” for ICTAM 2024, we would like to have an opportunity to reflect on what we have achieved over the past century and to identify our goals for theoretical and applied mechanics in the next 100 years.
